Should I cut this old red oak?

Zone 6B western North Carolina. I'm developing raw property... hopefully building my home there if costs ever come down. I'm planning access to a storage building and a short "road" that'll only be used occasionally if we need to drive things to it. Mainly foot traffic and even then not often. There's a big old red oak that I can work around but I may have to remove a small healthy tulip polar instead. The red oak has maybe 50% dieback up high but it still looks and feels solid. The remaining leaves don't look wilted and I don't know of any blights in my area. Other red oaks are fine. The occasional vehicle would go right over the roots within 5 feet of it, and this is the only way I can thread the road without taking out other great trees. There's nothing under the tree to be damaged if it falls.

It's hard to get a good photo now through the canopy but I'm attaching the best pic I can manage.

Is it worth it to work around this tree? Can it still survive for years or decades? Would it still stand solidly for a while if it does die?

The main issue is whether to save to 50% gorgeous old red oak or healthy yet small tulip poplar.
