Linear bathroom floor drain concern

My contractor installed a new bathroom for me and added a shower where one didn’t exist before. I wanted a linear drain and he installed a Schluter drain. Right afterwards I questioned him on it as it was raised advice the tile. I said won’t the water have to puddle up to actually drain through the drain or it will go around the outside edges of the drain bypassing the grate itself. Under the grate there were pockets where water could deep. He filled those with grout or mortar. I’m still not convinced this is done correctly. Every other drain I’ve ever seen is flush with the surrounding tile for obvious reasons. He says where’s the water going to go? It’s all waterproofed. They also installed a radiant heat floor under the tile, so I’m also worried, rightfully or not, about any issues with that and electrician should water seep under the tiles. Any advice?

Waht a mess I am not sure there is a fix without a redo but I agree I wonder what else is not done properly. Water cannot run uphill plain and simple

That is obviously incorrect as the entire grate needs to be even with the level of the tile. Makes one wonder how the balance of his work stacks up........................

As an expert, this is absolutely wrong, both practically and aesthetically. The grate should be at least level (or deeper) with the tile level.

****NB: You really need to have this fixed ASAP to keep unpleasant odors from entering the restroom through the drain.

I hate to think how he waterproofed that shower if he couldn't even put the drain in correctly. Do you have pictures of the work he did before the tiles went on?

We bought a house where the drain had been incorrectly set above the level of the tile and, 18 months down the road, ended up with drain flies because of the permanent standing water and had to rip out the floor and have someone redo it properly.
