Name That Plant!Garden

Mystery seed pods, is it a weed or something cool?

My kids picked up some seed pods at school and would like to plant them; before doing so I want to make sure I’m not adding something invasive to our garden space. The pods are large and papery and the plants are fairly low lying and look like herbaceous perennials. We are in US zone 5b. Any ideas on what these could be?

found out in the school yard.. or given to them by a teacher or some such???

z5 is half the US ... give us a big city name ... so we might know what is native out around there ...

Found in the school garden, so there’s a chance of it being from a cultivated plant. We are near Omaha, NE.

Perhaps one of the Centrosema species.

Oenothera macrocarpa. It's an attractive native wildflower, that can handle dry conditions. It has very large bright yellow, night blooming flowers. It's very long lived. It needs open space around it to spread out. About a 3 ft. circumference for a mature plant. It looks nice planted with other dry loving plants, like Opuntia,(Prickly Pear Cactus), and Nasella tenuifolia, (Mexican Feather Grass).

I think Jay’s got it; I checked back at the school garden and found some plants that look like evening primrose. i didn’t find seed pods or flowers, but those have probably been picked off by all the kids leaving school.
