Thanks for your interest in this project. The original wood burning fireplace was converted to gas prior to the renovation and the clients wanted to retain their custom fireplace screen. There is no insert into the fireplace.

The sides of the raised hearth look exactly like the front. The facing right side of the bookcase is flush against the side of the hearth and the same base molding wraps around the hearth and continues under the bookshelves and TV cabinet.
