Please help! Where should the TV go?

I’m getting a 55 inch TV for my family room. It will be a couple of inches longer than the card board. Where do you think it should go? The top of the mantel is 66 inches.

I will eventually buy new furniture too.

Thank you,
Chandra

I’m including a rough lay out of the room.

Too high on mantle. I would put it to the right of the FP and get a 3-seat sofa (not another sectional) to face FP

I’m open to all advice! Thank you!

Rachel, would you put it below the mantle on the left?

Put it to the right of the fireplace. Buy a sofa and place it parallel to the fireplace.

Would it fit on the wall next to the sliding glass door? It could be put on an extension, swivel arm for viewing and put back against the wall when not in use.

If we put it to the left of the fire place, we can see it nicely from our kitchen island. If it’s on the right side we can’t see it at all. We can see it over the fireplace too.

I don't see how you would be able to remove or lower the mantel with the brick supports there. Unless you removed the support bricks and rebricked that area flat, then repaint everything.

Amy, how high up would you put it?

problem with left side is youll get hkare and it wont work well with the sofa. Do you use the fireplace?

Somewhere between the bottom of the mantel and the top of the hearth. Maybe midway between the two? I'd have to move the cardboard up and down to get the best location for both viewing and aesthetics. Can you post a picture of the cardboard on that wall to see if it makes sense?

We rarely use the fire place.

I prefer not to move the mantel because I would need to replace the painted paneling.

I don't see why you would need to move it. It looks good and the scale is right for the wall. This is more about trying to work with what you have to find a place for the TV that looks good.

It sounds like you don't have a large budget. I was going to suggest converting the fireplace to a more horizontal gas or electric fireplace and/or bricking the fireplace in.

Can we see photos of all 4 walls?

Do you like the current height of the tv above the mantle?

Get a corner tv stand and put it to the left of the fireplace so its half on the slider wall and half on the fireplace wall. you can see it from the couch and also the kitchen. above the mantle is just too high.

The top of the mantel is 66 inches. I think that it is a little too high for the TV. I just remodeled 2 bathrooms and put all new doors in my house so I don't really want to do a major remodel for the family room at this time. With that being said I need an easy fix for now with a possible major redo in the future.

I'm at work now, but I can send pictures of the other walls when I get home.

Okay. Thanks. Reason I ask is that some people (a minority) actually don't mind their tv being that high, as they recline watching tv.

I would put it on the wall you have your sectional on now and put your sectional in front of the windows. If that idea doesn't work for you then I guess the corner mount below the mantle is the best of the current options.

Thanks for all your help! I may try it above the fire place for now. If I don’t like it there, I’ll try another option.
