You typically will not find a "professional home builder" to do a renovation when the housing market is hot. When things are really slow, they might tackle a reno. Mostly you would want a reno person or GC yourself but if you have to ask .... then get a reno person.

If your alternative is doing the work yourself, there are many factors to consider like your skills, budget, time, wife's expectations, scope of project, etc.

If you don't have established relationships with subs, attempting to GC yourself right now is insanity.
