Weird alignment - help!

This is a bit of a awkward space…if the dining table lines up with the pot lights and door it won’t line up with the sideboard…What can I do to make things more align?!

With the sideboard centered against the wall behind it, you are signaling you are trying for symmetry ... and yet in relation to other items, it lacks symmetry. Consider not trying for symmetry with the sideboard centered against the wall. Move it nearly to the left edge of the wall. You could then paint an open corner cabinet (for the corner to the right of it) the same color as the wall and/or sideboard and -- no attempt at symmetry on that wall so no fail ... or finish the corner cabinet and wood legs of your chairs in the same wood finish.

    Turn it longways ?

Forget the pot lights and the French doors. Move the table to center with the sideboard and be 36-42" from it. Return the clock, unless you're timing meals, and hang a pretty piece of art there. If you want it to be even more grounded feeling, pull the table another 12" away from the sideboard and add a rug that is 35-42" larger than the table. Measure and tape that out with painter's tape to be sure you don't have the rug in the traffic paths.

Similar to the first post, I'd suggest shifting the sideboard to the left so that it lines up with the table and the doors. Try a tall green plant to the right of the sideboard. I also agree with replacing the clock with a great piece of art.

Thanks for the suggestions! I do have a piece of art on the next wall…Should I still do a piece of art above thé buffet?

Yes. The clock, unfortunately adds nothing to your décor. Pick a piece that is different from the other one. You could even do a gallery of four prints.

You could try moving your existing large piece to over the sideboard, and if you like it consider other options on the wall where it's hanging now, like a slim bookcase if that would be suitable. Or perhaps the round mirror and console we see going down the next hall. Domino effect!

    Is this too small?

It would take some electical work, but I'm guessing if you hang a pendant over the table, wherever the table makes sense to you, the non-alignment of the pot lights wouldn't be so noticeable.

I like your clean modern aesthetic. Nice colors on the art work- perhaps a bit small - if it's good piece of art work you can always add a larger frame. Ignore the pot lights and put your table where you want it and if you think it needs more definition put a hanging fixture over; it if you don't want to get involved in rewiring then choose one that that uses tea lights.

Love the colors of the one the man is holding. i like the vases with it. i cant quite tell how the scale works without standing back and tilting my head and squinting just so, lol lol. but maybe a tall plant on the right.

Better picture for scale…I think it looks too small?!

It might be too small, can you put the other large painting over there and snap a pic, to see what a bigger one looks like?

I like the picture better when it's above the breakfront, rather than on top of it. And preferred the vases empty. I think the appropriate scale for a picture will be affected if you decide to add a tall plant on the right side. If you're going to do that, I think I'd do it next and then decide about art.

I think you should center the buffet on the wall and line up the table with it. Then, hang a chandelier centered over the table. Pot lights don't really provide any ambiance for your dining area. You could also put some buffet lights on the buffet to increase the amount of ambient lighting. Do those pot lights form a grid on the ceiling?

I agree hang a chandelier over the table after you have centered the table on the buffet wall please take that clock and put it away somewhere where it is never seen again get a great piece of art for that space . You will probably have to swag the chandelier unless you get an electrician to run wiring to the right spot.OOPs just read the other post with the art so ignore my art comment.
