Depends on your location and when it was planted. Any type of clematis will benefit from hard pruning after its first season in the ground. But unless you live in a very mild climate, this pruning is best done in late winter or early spring......just as you see the buds starting to swell.

Since your vine is blooming now, the assumption is it is a pruning group 3 clematis. These types bloom in late summer only on any new growth produced the current season so they should be treated to a hard prune annually to keep them tidy, compact and floriferous.

Do you know the name of the clem you are growing? We can be more specific about pruning details if you do (can't see the flowers clearly).

The recommended pruning time is the same anywhere in the northern hemisphere. That's when I prune mine in a very mild zone 9.
