can someone help with layout?

We have a “front room” and I have no idea how to fill it! I definitely want to keep one of the chairs in here, I would like a Pottery barn chaise if I can fit one , and of course we need a larger rug and probably a different couch . I’m overwhelmed with how to fill it - basically want it to be a sitting room but not be totally cluttered . Any help with layout would be so awesome ! (Ignore the mess!)

First question is why the sofa is offset instead of centered on that wall? Is it the register you're trying not to block or do you need the parking spot for the stroller? I would center the sofa and sit pretending your two best friends are visiting and sitting in the chairs. would you be comfortable with them in the corners like that? You want a sitting room, not a waiting room.

Take the sofa table out from behind it for now and place it next to the front door wall. Find an end table for a lamp for next to the couch. Then try moving the chairs where you think you'd be comfortable looking at your friends when they visit. Then I would photograph again. Seeing how it would function with what you have, then see what new furniture you might need to make it perfect.

How many people are usually sitting in this space (not guests)? That will dictate how many seats you need. I would center the loveseat in the middle of that same wall. Set it at least six inches from the register. Put the chairs on either side of the loveseat, allowing for room to get in and out. Put a tall and wide storage unit (Ikea?) on wall that currently has the two chairs. On wall next to window, put tv if you are going to have one. Otherwise put another storage unit or wall decor. Behind loveseat have either a huge peice of wall decor/art or an art gallery. Put tiny side tables on each end of the loveseat. Lighting - a table lamp or wall sconce in each corner at chest height. Lighting is often seen as an afterthought, but it is actually quite inportant for atmosphere. I would rethink the coffee table as the child begins to crawl and walk. The sharp corners are not child proof. Get instead a round ottoman and a huge wicker tray on top for drinks. Create a plan before buying anything so you have a unified and cohesive look. Measure twice, buy once for every item. If you need to organize your plan, get a skinny three hole binder with loose leaf wide rule papers, top loading plastic sheet protectors, and tab separators. Some of your categories will be ideas, vendors (stores), and budget. If you don't know what your style is, put in top search box (one at a time), "casual living room in photos" and "transitional living room in photos" (without the quotations marks). Rearding color - you have a warm color floor and warm color wall. Make sure to stick to warm colors for this room. Warm color examples: off-white, cream, beige, tan, brown, olive green, golden yellow, peach, orange, orange red, gold/bronze tone accessories and fixtures. Cool color examples: bright white, gray, taupe (gray-brown), navy, black, cool (blue) red), royal blue, Kelly green, pine green, forest green, purple, ice cool pastels, silver tone accessories and fixtures.

Your question is confusing because of your use of "front room." Do you have a family room elsewhere for TV watching, or is this your main living room/family room? In any case, work with the furnishings you have to try various layouts before you add any other pieces. (Down the road, add a low console or low bookcase with storage, not a chaise. You have enough seating, especially if you get an upholstered cushion made for your window seat.)

If you just want a sitting room then arrange three to four upholstered chairs around a coffee table surrounded by all four chairs. You could use the very nice ones you have and add two complementary ones. Add a large art work on the far wall. Get a seat cushion made for your window seat. (Etsy is great for this.)

If this is your main living room, then try these options:

--Float sofa to face far wall with a long, slim sofa table behind it for putting down keys, mail, etc. Bring your two very nice chairs forward to form a conversational grouping. Again, get a seat cushion for your window seat. Put a console on the wall where you now have the sofa with a lamp, art or mirror above it (which would reflect light from your window). This orientation:

--Center your sofa on the wall where you have it. Bring both chairs forward to face the sofa in a conversational grouping. (Why are you chairs way off in the corner?) You need to connect them to the sofa. Put a mirror over the sofa to reflect window light.

Add console/low bookcase with storage for toy baskets when your child is older, and one large art work, or several over the bookcase/console on the far wall.

Maybe you have all missed the fact that the OP is too busy to move any furniture or answer questions.

Paul f This makes me crazy! Several times I have posted questions with lots of photos and I never seem to get much of a response. The responses I do get I am thankful for and always reply back. The OP received lots great advice right away, with photos, that people went out of their way for and they will probably never hear from her again.

I know it's to be expected, but it still annoys me sometimes.

Sorry everyone - I have a 1 month old so can only work on house stuff on the weekends usually (when I originally posted) . I am quite literally too busy to respond during the week but I appreciate the harsh words!

I did move the furniture and plan to replace almost all of it, but do like this layout that was suggested above ! I think I will need to add a piece of furniture or soemthing on the wall facing the windows becuase it looks very bare. And probably a 10x 13 rug instead of 9x12.

I agree people like to sit by a window and I do like that arrangement ! Also, usually there wouldn’t be more than 2-3 people in this room. We have a large family room with TV And this room is just bonus. I’m not wanting to keep much of this furniture but am trying to figure out what layout would work before I start buying expensive pieces .

I would not have thought of this layout so I genuinely do appreciate all of the replies :)

Elaine - I love the ikea idea and the round ottoman! This room will probably double as a somewhat play/ crawl area so that is a good idea to not have sharp corners . You know better than me :)

The wall I’m talking about that is a bit bare

Put wall art on the wall facing the window, not a shelving unit, table or anything that will take space. You want to leave an attractively wide traffic path there and not crowd it. It's a space where you could put, for example, 4 medium sized pieces in a grouping, or a gallery wall. You also need to leave the space in front of the air return free.

sorry but bare wall looks like perfect spot for sofa or new sofa with comfy chaise lounge imo.

Thank you! A gallery wall is a good idea .

I will post again once I have more done in here . Also, does anyone have experience with slip covers for couches ? I dislike the color of the one I have but until I decide on a new one, I was thinking of trying for more of an oatmeal look. I saw some on Etsy and like the more relaxed / linen look but was confused on measurements
