Why not do a pretty wallpaper instead?

I'd love to but am afraid the humidity in a laundry closet could be an issue. Yes, I am putting in a powerful vent, but I live in the humid Mid-Atlantic and feel a wallpaper is less impervious to humidity than paint. I have thought of stenciling, but didn't want to overdo the investment in a laundry closet.

Regarding Pewter Green, I saw that picture too and loved the effect, but when I looked at other pictures of it, it seemed too pewter grey, as you noted.

The reason I don't post pictures is that the room doesn't exist yet. I am turning a powder room into a laundry closet do my laundry room can become a full bathroom on the ground floor. If I had the room already, I would just get tested cans and see the paints in the room.

I think I am switching to Sherwin Williams 6447 Evergreens for a less bright look.

I painted my last laundry room with a Benjamin Moore brown color. It was the same as this study. Had white cabinetry. Loved it!

Nhb92, that is a pretty color. Do you have the maker and name and number? Combined with white and brass it would remind me of caramel and honey on vanilla ice cream. I did actually think of that, and have loved the caramel idea for bathrooms too. I think the green I love would go well with it. I switched to green wall color, simply because the wall paint is the only place I have to add any color at all. Even the floor is nearly completely hidden. For acoustics and water issues I chose a cork floor in a type of white.

To clarify, this is a closet, not a room? Personally I would paint it white to make it brighter, but find a beautiful picture with lots of my favorite green shades in it. We have a framed photo my DH took of a woodland waterfall while we were hiking with our DD’s family. This photo has mostly greens, the water to reference laundry, and wonderful memories all attached. Maybe you have something similar?

Remodeling 1840, yes, this is a closet 60 inches wide off the long entry hallway from the front door to the kitchen and family room at the back of the house. I am creating it from my powder room. I am then converting my laundry room into a full bath to age in place, as we don't have a full bath downstairs.

Funny that you suggest putting a picture in there with greens in it. Because it is a humid laundry closet, I would not put anything of real value in there, but all along I planned to put a cheap print in there I have long loved. It's a print of a painting of a field of stylized soybeans or potatoes or young tobacco with a red barn and green trees, with a girl galloping down the lane on a white horse. You are probably right that white walls would be the safest bet. I'll ask my husband if he would feel better with white. I just thought it would be too depressing and utilitarian to have white.

So let me ask you, why not green? Green is my favorite. My husband likes green. We plan to live here a long time. We aren't fixing to sell. I have a shade of white on every other wall in the house. I'm not experienced at decorating and sincerely want to know why not green? I'm not meaning to be challenging. I'm trying to learn.

I am a bit excited about this closet. Humidity management was one priority, and acoustics another. The contractor is using all sorts of materials to manage sound for this room while the machines run. And since it's in a hallway, we asked for doors that open then slide back into the wall perpendicular to the hallway, so they don't block the hallway when open. And I love the idea of having the laundry near the kitchen. It wasn't bad where it was, and we considered moving it upstairs, but I preferred adding a bathroom and closet space up there so I could have three bedrooms upstairs, each with a private bath. I want company as we age. At 1992 ft sq the value of the house increases going from 4 bedrooms to three with a bath addition. White would just make the space look bigger to me. I always paint the insides of closets bright white so I can see the real colors of my clothes-navy slacks vs black slacks for example. I also use brighter lighting so color is more true. But I also think a work space should make you happy.

This morning I decided to calm my inner color-coward by putting in a trim board just above the washer and dryer, painting it and everything below it white, and painting the wall above it Sherwin Williams Evergreens.

I have a laundry closet that has bifold doors that I dislike can you share what type of hardware allows the doors to recess to the sides?

I wanted sound reduction and the contractor chose heavy solid doors. That caused a special order after the fact to get the right sized brackets for the door. They also were a bit difficult to move at first, but are ok now. The door pulls are insufficient and I am thinking of replacing them with something that has a pull out ring:

I wish I had placed the chair rail above the outlets, but am not bothered by it. I thought it would be humid in there, but it's not. I thought it would be dark in there and one light wouldn't be enough, but either the light/vent or the hall light is more than enough.

Thanks, remodeling 1840. I am timid, but color makes me happy. I want to learn more about using it well. I have been schooled in color theory by my mother, a professional, since I was a pre-teen, yet I am still timid in application. I wish more HOUZZ images used color. But for so long there's mostly white or grey everything. It's so frustrating. So thanks!

DH wedged a couple heavy plastic hangars behind one of the doors and prayed the rod out of the wall. We got a different contractor in who fixed it a short time by installing backing, fresh drywall patch and leftover paint. Also noticed one door wasn't hanging quite right and fixed it so it no longer rubs against the frame. The problem was the threshold was too long and pushed the door funny. That's fixed but when the door was rehung it scraped the floor. Touchy! Well schedule a second attempt. It was so nice getting the rod back up. This closet is all the laundry room I'd ever want. Love it after all this time. So quiet when the doors shut.
