Hello! I just moved a rhododendron from a bad location. It was next to a concrete wall, in full sun, and planted on top of landscape fabric between other shrubs. When digging it out, I discovered root rot and most of the roots and crown crumbled away.

I removed one of the two trunks that was diseased, but the other one looked healthy enough. That half of the plant has a root system extending 2-3 feet away in one direction, but that's it. The plant is now in a cooler spot with better drainage and I've left the healthy looking limbs with non-wilted leaves on. Any chance of this thing surviving or should I go ahead and dispose of it? It's now living under a mature cedar that is dearly loved.

Also, should I be concerned about planting other things in the old location? The landscape fabric will be removed of course. The other shrubs are doing well enough considering they've been neglected.
