If you want the look, do an "absolute black" honed granite

More important is your cabinet and appliance plan, and all the OTHER elements such as flooring.A backsplash is the least of the issue. You select after cabinets and tops are installed.

Or honed Virginia/Jet Mist (black) granite.

Dark grey soapstone would be beautiful. If you don’t want the maintenance of soapstone, then go with Diana’s suggestion. Silestone has several dark grey, almost black ideas as well.

First fix the lighting before choosing anything else replace that flourescent light box with some pot lights or if that is not in the budget then a track light with 5 heads all bulbs led 4000K thenchoose the gray for the cbinets and IMO granite is a much better choice than any quartz , The back splash you choose after the cabinets are done and the counter is in. Same for wall color.. Are you actully replacing the cabinets and tweaking the layout / I think we need a bit more info. BTW having cabinets professionaly painted costs almost as much as new and the bonus with new is all those base cupboards can be replaced with drawers .

i agree with others, go with a granite.

absolute black or virginia mist. both will be fab 'honed'.

    then pick b/s

    are u changing the floors?

you will need a new lighting plan

i would paint the walls the same color as the cabs, especially since if u take the cabs up to the ceiling, there really isn't that much wall space and it will give you a more seamless look/less chopped up. or a lighter or darker color off the same color chip will give you a little depth if u feel u need it.

in doing that, a "WOW" b/s will stand out, if that's what u like, and with those choices, a WOW b/s would be the focal point of your ktichen. the counters will play a supporting role.

add color with accessories, rugs, artwork etc.... wooden bowl with lemons or green apples...

Yes….replace the fluorescent lighting first. Its changes everything. I always use light-colored counters because the whole kitchen feels lighter and brighter. If granite is within your budget, go to your local stone yard and see if any granites which include some gray appeal to you. I love the look and feel of polished granite counters.

We had pros on here a lot sneakier than my comment…..

soapstone would be nice. I do think you need plenty of natural light and good lighting to pull off grey cabinets with a dark counter. Pick backsplash last.

Lighting changes everything. Make sure to do that first since colors will change when you have better bulbs. It’s hard to choose cabinet colors with countertops and backsplash tiles until you correct your lighting.
