How would you handle this situation?

Hello! We have hired someone to install hardwood floors on the 2nd level of our house built in 1952. In the middle of the installation I noticed the damage on the ceiling on the lower level of our house caused by the nails going through the walls and let the contractor know. The contractor promised to fix it when they are done with the floors but never really do anything else about this and continued with the installation as is causing more damage in the living room and kitchen area. At the end she said that there is something wrong with our house and walls are not thick enough for the nails and she doesn't have to fix it but as a courtesy offered to fix it but only if we split the cost with her. What should we do in this case?
