I have an elephant ear in my backyard planted by a former homeowner. I am trying to learn more about it. We had a couple of small elephant ear plants last year when we moved in (grew about 1 ft tall). This year I not only have several growing, but they're about 3 ft tall and sending out runners and baby plants (see picture). I'm not worried about them taking over (I can simply cut the runners) but I am curious to learn more about what they are, as they don't have corms as far as I can tell. When I dig up the smaller ones it looks more like a root system.

I can't find any that look like these online even after a bit of searching - most references to elephant ears indicate they have corms (like Taro plant). Perhaps mine will grow corms if they are around longer? I would welcome any information regarding this beautiful plant! We live in west Tennessee.
