My BoHo Table Setting

My tribe of gals is coming over tonight and we are celebrating a birthday. We meet weekly and have so for years.

This is a new cloth from etsy. I love the fall colors.

Beautiful table. Have fun with your gal friends and Happy Birthday to the birthday girl. What's on the menu?

Jinx, go up I-35 to get me before we take I-40 to Trail. :)

Bumble, tell us more about your friends and how this ritual began.

Perfect fall look! Love the way the place settings pick up the touches of navy in the table cloth. Wonderful combination of colors-like wild fall garden.

You all are so supportive too and I appreciate your comments. Two of the women weren't able to make it at last minute but they are ""P's" in the MBTI if you follow that. So, not surprising.

No one commented on the table, however, that is why I appreciate you! That sort of thing is not everyone's thing and I do like feedback.

We had mixed salad greens with lots of toppings : goat cheese crumbles, blackberries, praline nuts, cucumber, red onions, dried fruit mix, grape tomatoes, cheddar cheese, roasted corn, bacon, orange segments, bleu cheese, and fresh grilled chicken breast. Hot, fresh homemade spelt loaf.

German chocolate cake and that was gluten free too and maybe the best cake I have ever made.

    Good decaf coffee.

I bought the tablecloth from Etsy and it is a kantha quilt sold as a baby bed size. I really like it.

I also bought a black and white one but they sent me a medium blue and there was a note deep down in the listing after clicking "read more" that it might be blue. Although the picture was black and white. ERRR

I have shared interests with these women but only one shares my aesthetic and likes decorating and all this stuff like me.

I also have to say I love that your large plates are plain with color on the lip and the salad/dessert plates pick up that color with pattern. My all white plates are boring me now!

    Myers Briggs…?

    That sounds soooooo yummy!

No one commented on the table Ok, this would kill me. But I know everyone is different. I know people who don't comment on food, even if they have seconds. (grinding teeth). I'm very needy.

I love your late summer table!

Very clever to use a baby bed size. At one time I had looked at Kantha runners but didn't find one that I liked. Then I checked for bed size but didn't feel like cutting one up and re-binding the edges. I'll have to look for crib size.

    Thanks for the tip, Maire

Yes Meyers Briggs. P's are opened ended with options and time and stuff like that.

I am very needy too and it really disappointed me that the table and the effort wasn't verbally appreciated but THANK YOU EVERYBODY HERE! Seriously.

Not much comment on the food either although I know it was enjoyed. Both women were in a funk about life, kids and spouses, so....

Lots of people throw out a bag of chips and make hotdogs but I always think, can't you at least put the chips in a bowl? :-)

Dlm, I don't have any white plates and have been on a hunt for awhile, but can't find any I "need' or love much. And I've been eyeballing these for awhile but I do not need dishes!

Bumble, you invited people into your lovely home and tried to make it an enjoyable get-together for everyone. I'd sum it up to a Covid funk that seems to be going around.

Bumblebeez SC Zone 7 thanked Arapaho-Rd

When I have friends over for lunch that's exactly the type of meal that I would serve. Next time, you know where to come for those who will appreciate the effort.

And it's easier than making hotdogs and opening a bag of chips.

I am another who uses white plates quite often and adds printed or antique salad plates. Yes, I might have a problem when it comes to dishes. I love your table setting! That is a great table cloth. That menu is right up my alley! I had a salad yesterday with chicken, sugared pecans, dried cranberries, orange segments, red onion and cheese. One of my favorites!

Meeting weekly is quite an accomplishment! One of my most treasured group of friends is my mom's group that meets monthly. The ladies all became friends in high school (some earlier) and they have been following this tradition for years. After my mom passed away and another member two days before my mom, the ladies invited me and the other daughter to join. I was very close to two of these ladies and I will tell you, it is a joy to see them each month. My own age group friends (other than my very best friend), needs to take note of these ladies and make sure we see each other more often! (PS very few of my friends seem to be as interested in decorating as I am!! I have one friend who is interested!!)

I'd feel a little hurt too that no one noticed my table setting. I've finally become accustomed to the fact that my DS and DDIL never notice the table, or the beautiful flowers, or the candles and napkins that were all carefully chosen. At least they'll comment on the food.

Take comfort in the fact that you have caused me serious Kantha envy. I've been using Ekelund Swedish table runners for the last year or so but I'm looking for something different. I just spent an hour looking for a Kantha runner but still no luck. Even though yours is made from many different pieces they all blend together so well and I really like the muted mustard colors. It almost seems like a neutral and that's what I'm looking for. My table is a warm brown, my dishes are cream ironstone and the hanging light fixture has shades of brown, orange, gold and cream. I don't want to add another color which is why yours is perfect. I did find a baby blanket that's 70 by 50 and I could use it as a full table cloth. The table is 56x38 so it would give me about a 6" drop on all sides. Hopefully the image is close to what I would receive.

    Thanks again Maire

Here's everything about the two I bought. I am showing the other one so you won't be taken in by the lovely black and white aka gray one which was very blue.

I would buy from this store again but carefully, reading reviews well.

Also, they had no smell and are thin, perfect for a table.

I love your table and the look of Kantha quilts in general.

Sometimes folks either 1) don't notice the stuff that matters to us, and/or 2) don't bother saying nice things about the stuff that matters to us. It's not you; it's them.

I've done stuff at my house and I notice *and comment* on similar things my friends do at their homes. But not everyone does that.

Of course you set a gorgeous table.…_just look at your home! I usually set the table a day ahead : time management, and so I can enjoy it before the party. I have a friend ive grown to appreciate less due to her manner of seeking praise showing off her home, her new car, etc., but never reciprocates, keeping her lips tightly closed when a compliment should be naturally forthcoming. why do you suppose? selfish, or? Compliments on my home decor efforts just make me beam inside. Always love the little peeks we get of yours, beez

Cough cough, I set the table several days ahead but usually do the flower arrangements early on the day of the party.

I hope I give compliments to others even when I hate their decor, I think I do, there is always SOMETHING that can be noticed and complimented.

I would like to also aknowledge the beautiful dog in the corner in addtion to your lovely tablescape!

Bumblebeez SC Zone 7 thanked cmm1964

Yes cmm - the pooch! I was so busy looking at the table I didn't look around but he looks quite pleased with the set-up.

I do think lack of noticing/commenting is not a reflection on you, Bumble but the guests. I have to plead mea culpa on that score because sometimes I don't notice changes in a friend's house since I was last there and in some cases that's a recipe for hurt feelings. But a beautifully set table and wonderful meal that I'm attending would never escape my notice and comment. It may have something to do with some people truly just don't 'see it or understand the care and thought involved. But I know in certain cases at least, it's self saving as offering up accolades makes some people feel diminished. My sister was like that and if she did muster complimentary words they were followed by others that tarnished them.

Murphy, I have no idea. I imagine the colors might bleed.

I have one Kantha placemat that I often use underneath a floral arrangement to protect the table. It's pieced together from various fabrics and then hand stitched. I hand wash it with cold water, roll in a towel to remove excess moisture then lay flat to dry. Some web sites say you can machine wash in cold water on a delicate cycle but the placemat is small enough to do by hand.

I ordered a runner yesterday and may put it in my front loader - it depends on how delicate the stitching or fabric looks.

It looks very nice. I'm not one to go for a set table as we entertain more casual, however I certainly would comment as a guest in another persons house. My DH's side of the family will comment on decor, but never on the food. So that is always a guess if anyone liked it. I will go with if they take seconds as the they liked it or they cleaned their plates.

@maire_cate - I use Ekelund runners too, but didn't realize they were available to buy over here. I always pick one up when I'm in Sweden. So I really appreciate that info as I want another Christmas one and they just don't have those out when we go in the summer.

lyfia - I have several and they're even available on Amazon too. I like giving the kitchen towels as a housewarming gift along with a GC. I bought my first textile at the American Swedish Historical Museum in Philadelphia. But if you google Ekelund you'll find more web sites.

    This is my Christmas one:

I got an Ekelund runner earlier this year for my breakfast table from: Ekelund Runner

(It’s on sale for less now than what I paid.)

It arrived quickly from Carmel. I love it:

The colors are perfect for my old bowl:

Excuse the wrinkles, I’d just unwrapped it and was excited to see it. :D

And this has led us to collecting vintage Dala horses.

@maire_cate - good to know on Amazon as well. I love my Ekelund stuff. My mom gave my in-laws a towel the first time they met and my MIL framed it.

@Bumblebeez SC Zone 7 - I love them and they are easy to care for. I wash mine in the washer, hang dry and iron it before putting on the table.

Here are my Ekelund placemats and runner. I love the reverse sides too. A whole different color field. I use two runners and overlap in the middle to cover the length of my table sometimes, or put them separately across the width and they act as placemats then. The mats are from Fjorn (just saw that Jinx posted the same). And Bumblebee, your table deserved notice, hard to imagine people being oblivious to such a joyful setting, but such it is with housewifery efforts these days, at times. Lyfia - I love that blue!

Last night I read small kantha quilts make good bed runners. Long table runners are good for a bed runner also. I have a large storage container full of runners, some that are quilted and thin like kanthas.

They're good to set something on so you don't dirty the bedspread. Cats will like them.

I love this topic, it feels like I'm back in the early 70's!

Love. Especially the fresh flowers. I rarely cut mine for display since I also rarely entertain anymore. I envy you! I haven't had a "girl's night" in two years! I am still a work in progress at home . . .
