storage in dinning room

I’m looking for a way to get a bit of storage space in the dinning room. Not sure what setup I could do. I’m not attached to anything in that room, except the table (which is getting stained in a lighter colour soon).

What are you wanting to store? What’s left of the rocker?

The rocker is in the living room.
Wanting to store, cups, wine glasses, prob liquor

Small china cabinet where the picture is - behind the rocker.

Perhaps you could use a storage bench on one side of the table instead of chairs. Between the windows you could do vertical storage for items to be displayed, or with baskets to hide items.

Your island looks extra deep. Can you make storage that opens into the dining room side in it?

Use the area where you have the art hanging in between the living and dining room. A tall bar cabinet that fits between there that is narrow enough not to take up the whole space.

    Other options:

I also considered a bench under the window, however it will remove flexibility to close the curtains and look good. There's also the area near your door where your trash can is, but it would have to be short so as not to cover the light switch, plus you'll have to find a new spot for the trash, though the trash can be moved to the side of the island. They also make some small corner cabinets that you might be able to replace in lieu of your corner shelf. Something against the island will interfere with the walkway and/or centering of the dining table.

My vote is a cabinet between living and dining room.

I would say a nice glass door tall cabinet next to the kitchen cabinets by the window and use it to store all the dishes and glassware for the table

Three possibilities: a baker's rack next to your existing cabinets, a baker's rack in between the two rooms where the picture hangs, and replace your white corner shelf with a different type to store glassware and house a bar.

Love Beverlys idea of adding a cabinet.
    Love the table also :)

Replace white corner shelf with small corner cabinet from Ballard Design.

Hi Josee, If it were me, I would put a closed corner cabinet to replace the one you have right now, and add a low slung or even console height cabinet with storage on both sides between your dining and living areas. This would add both storage and counter space for entertaining. It would add separation without disrupting the flow between the living and dining spaces. If you had it wired, you could also use it to hold chafing dishes/slow cookers while entertaining (when we redid our dining/kitchen space, I had two outlets installed in the floor under our dining table at each end... we have a large extended family and they come in really handy during the holidays and for fondue parties).

I’d measure the space between the windows and head to Ikea for example, or look for a vintage piece and paint if needed. A piece with glass won’t feel as heavy and suggest finding new homes for the white corner shelf and plant.

I'd add a glass door bar cabinet where you have the picture and basket to put pretty glassware and bar stuff

I like @Maureen’s idea. In between the windows behind the rocker is an ideal place for a unique glass fronted cabinet. If you like hunting in antique and second hand stores, you can find a real treasure you can paint.

Your options are few. a tall, slim china type cabinet on wall behind rocker, or a sideboard console behind rocker that divides dining and living rooms, that has drawers/doors and doubles as a bar. Nice rooms just not a lot of wall space for dining storage furniture

You could try adding a cabinet or a tall shelf where the trash can currently is, where the painting is, or in the corner where the plant shelf is.

I suggest removing the curtains from the window and the doors. Add blinds to the doors to match the window. This will accentuate wall space and give room for a corner cabinet where the ladder currently is. Add a matching or complimenting dresser of buffet where the picture is hanging behind the rocker for a bar area which would also provide space for placemats, tablecloths and other occasional accessories.

Completely agree Shelly. I’ve been debating removing these curtains. Less clutter and less to clean - I love it. Thanks

Mark Cochran… thank you for the suggestion! I love the look. Now on to staining the table/chairs in a lighter colour.

    Thanks all for the suggestions.

Looks really nice, the only comment would be: don't jam the right one right up against the wall.

Looking forward to seeing the table and chairs when they are finished.

    Your room looks great!
