white oak stain for kitchen

Hi! Need some help, we are remodeling our kitchen with white oak wood cabinets. I would like the color to be similar to the one posted below. However, the cabinet guy put a “natural” stain sample for me and it head golden/yellow. He then showed it with a “walnut” stain. Seemed okay. Has anyone used walnut stain on white oak? Will it achieve the look I want

You sample until you get a result you like. All depends the grain and tone of the original. There is no way we can tell you if you like what you've been shown thus far.

This was Minwax ( basically charcoal ) on white oak )

What a stunning space! I’d like to clarify- you say “charcoal” because it was custom mixed minwax, right? Do you have any details at all regarding how you came to this recipe? I’d love to try to duplicate it on my live edge white oak slabs. Just WOW!!

What you are looking for is a lighly washed finish on the white oak...thay will get rid of the yellows/golds and still maintain the beauty of the wood. Some local "cabinet guy" who is finishing on site may not be the best option to get the look you are looking for...if you showed this guy that picture and he offered you minwax natural or special walnut I would find somewhere else to get the cabinets from.
