This is a young comtesse de leusse in winter at a local nursury. The nursury couldn't provide much info on this rose plant.

Per Help Me Find, "Matt" in Chipley, FL, up in the "pan handle" and Florida Southern College, Dr. Malcolm Manners' gardens, both list growing it in Florida. You might have greater success messaging them both through Help Me Find (or even Face Book as both post there regularly), or hope Malcolm sees this here.

Mine is still small, and to be honest I don't remember if the few blooms it has had have fallen cleanly. I'll check tomorrow to see if it has bloomed recently (it's in the pot ghetto). I do know it doesn't make "dirty kleenex", so they must self-clean at least to a certain extent.

It's probably as hot here as most places in FL, and DEFINITELY as humid, if not more so, and CdL is very healthy here, and has put on a lot of growth this summer (weeks of 90-95F). I'm hoping for a decent flush in a couple of weeks.

But like Kim said, your best bet is to hear from someone more local. As much as TN summers FEEL tropical, we ain't Florida.

This rose was among the roses that Vintage Gardens got from John and Becky Hook, and while it was still extremely rare in the US, it was auctioned up to a fairly high price at the Heritage Rose Foundation meeting here in Lakeland, in 2013. The winner of the auction gave me a cutting, and so that's how I got our plant. We only recently put it in the garden, so I don't know what it will ultimately do there; over the years, we've grown it in a large pot in the greenhouse, as a source of propagating material, and AFAIK, nurseries currently selling it probably got it for us. We do find that it reblooms very well, is fairly self-cleaning, and in the greenhouse is fairly carefree. Of course that's quite a different environment than out in the open garden.
