pictures on wall

Just repainted dining room, Accessible Beige, SW - need some ideas for wall art. Would you suggest pictures or something else on the walls? Unfortunately, I am stuck with the old dining room furniture for now.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

This looks like a small space . Do you have to have the china cabinet part of that wall unit ? I wouls remove the top part and then get a pice of art to hang above just the buffet part.If that can't happen then go looking for 2 pieces of art that are somehow connected with theme or colors since I assum you are not getting original art there are lots on line with 2 pieces that would work .Please never leave a tablecloth on a table unless you are setting it for dinner . A nice center piece is what you need and I like just fresh flowers in a vase .

Thanks for your prompt response. Have to leave cabinet the way it is. I will look for 2 pieces of art that are connected. As far as the tablecloth, it covers the scratches . But I will try taking it off and going with flowers in a vase as you suggested. Thanks again, Patricia.

Sometimes the scractches can be fixed with those crayons used for that purpose .

Definitely pictures on each side of the cabinet. Look for something rich, something that stirs you, that you want to see every day. Investigate ways of curing the scratches on the table. Basically, Patricia is spot on.

Not to exclude possibilites, the pictures could be great photographs, or poster art. It's a neutral space and could take all manner of styles of art.

For me, the best option here would be some neutral still-life pictures.

Thank you all for suggestions. I know that tablecloth has to go, but the table itself is so old, maybe 70 years old? Its been passed down to us from family. We are planning on downsizing in 2 years so I don't want to invest in DR furniture at this point. I will look into the "crayons" Patricia mentioned earlier. My hunt for pictures is on!!

I know you said you just painted it....but what about a large print floral wallpaper just on the China cabinet side? The traditional look of the cabinet and table could totally make that work.

Your room is currently very neutral and would look good with some colour in the wall art. It looks good if the colours in adjacent rooms relate to each other, so try to choose art with those colours.

A table runner with the same colours is an option too, and maybe it will help hide the scratches. https://www.overstock.com/guides/how-to-use-table-runners

Thank you, Partim. I like the idea of polyurethane. That would be a good job for my husband! At this point, we are going to keep the breakfront the way it is. I will consider a runner as well as adding some color wall art.

I'd go for artwork that has appetite stimulating colors - red, orange. Your diners will think you're a gourmet cook!
