Sounds very good Mo, loving turquoise at the moment too. :)

    Candace, two more for you
I wish you could too Angela, actually better you than I. It all seems like the same old stuff to me, doesn't ever seem like there's anything new and exciting. I was a rep for a tile company for many years so things that I know were discontinued several years ago are now back....really!!!! When it was butt ugly 15 years ago it's not any better today. Here's a funny, we discontinued all the subway tile 10 years ago....hahaha, it's back and what's worse, is people are tripping over it. I think I've seen it all when it comes to tile. There's 2 showrooms I'll visit today, if I have no luck, I might call this concrete guy and have some kind of master piece fashioned. I would love coloured textured glass but hubby would kill me :(

DIAspoton, I'm going to AMES today and plan on finding the manufacturers name. Better brush up on my Italian just in case.

The good thing about Miami it must be the tile capital, usually they have so much it is confusing.
    Posted for you Angela.
Candace, the glass would be funky!! But it's not as timeless as what you picked out before. The concrete option might be very good. Etched and Stained in different colors and polished it would look great.

Angela, anywhere there's a port the tile choices and prices are fabulous. The further it has to be transported once it's done the sea portion of it's journey, so either by train or truck, the price goes way up.

Michelle, I could get a slab of concrete poured. Coloured, acid washed, whatever. I could probably have the same look in concrete as that tile I wanted. Then have him polish the hell out of it, so it shines like the top of the Chrysler Tower... never mind, that was from the movie Annie. If i were to go that direction, since the lower level is acid washed concrete, I should pick the same releases because it will take on a slightly different direction. Either way, since it would be 2 different pours they wouldn't match anyway. I'm okay with not matchy matchy, it sucks the life out of me, NEED creativity.

    Hey all

Thanks for the good thoughts. Feeling kinda down today... still kinda shocked. Going to be strange heading to work tomorrow knowing we'll never hear him on the radio again.

Gonna try to accomplish something today. Seems like all of my get up and go has gotten up and left again.

    Have a great Thursday all.

That's how it goes, Robin, that kind of news can really take a lot out of you. Try to be kind to yourself, time is what's needed. Luckily you have a lot of projects to get immersed in, kind of leave the brain on auto pilot and don't think. :)
    Feel better
(((hugs))) for Robin. Get outside today and do something productive. It will take your mind off things for a little while. Thinking of you... wine at my place if you need it... xoxo

robin, sorry you're going through this. the combination of losing a co-worker, the suddeness of his death at a relatively young age and the reminder of our own mortality are enough to weigh heavily on anyone. sometimes all the training in the world still isn't enough when tragedy strikes close to home. might be a good night to treat yourself to a movie or massage. or ice cream. or all 3 !

If I didn't have to work in the morning... I would totally take you up on that Kim.

How do we ask the houzz people to check up on someone who is flooding the discussions with advertising?
    His name is garysharp.
Well, I submitted a request, maybe they'll see it before he answers every single dilemma
  • 13 years ago
He posted on mine. I was like wrong link.
What? You mean you didn't want a water treatment in your bedroom? Maybe he was going to come over and do it himself, better not let marky mark know about that. ;)

I thought it was error at first.

What a waste of a beautiful afternoon :( Went to hunt down some tile but eventually gave up. Stopped into the fireplace supplier and changed my mind on my previous selection. Arrg, this was just not my day however I did see a shop advertising Black Maple slabs with a living edge, soooooo tomorrow I might just go check that out along with the other tile distributor.
You should check out the ones I talked about in last post. :)
Like the sound of the live edge maple, what's it going to be used for? Counter, table?
Hahaha, yes it does stink. Actually, by the time I got to Ames the gal had phoned the manufacturer and they no longer produce it. The larger size I wanted, was special order at the manufacturer level as well. Regardless of it's size, and as much as I love it on it's own, bottom line is it looks like crap next to that hardwood floor.

Was thinking about a sideboard or a leg less table/ledge in the foyer. Any ideas? Might flip the alcoves on the fireplace wall, so they can be in the bedroom. My minds spinning, what to do, what to do. Now, I'm also considering that the fireplace wall be flat and then offset the tv and fireplace. I really don't like tv's stacked on fireplaces, there just to high for me.

fell in love last yr with a one of a kind table. live edge maple top with a twisted tree root base. very polished and artsy. it was on pinterest. would love to someday have a similar one made as a dining table. maybe use with acrylic chairs.
    better luck shopping tomorrow.
I've seen a live edge maple table and yes, there easy to fall in love with. Thanks for wishing me better luck DIA, but if this keeps up Angela has offered to do the tile shopping for me and she might just get that nasty job :)

Angela, is your Internet still down?
I won't do it for you but I'll certainly accompany you one day.
Well if you do that Robin, that will make you a witness, maybe even an accomplice.......We'll need Angela to talk to the cops, Michele to feed us breakie and bail us out hahaha or kimdee to whack them with the 9 iron as we run like hell :) Oh boy....somebody stop me, I might be on a roil.
Are you sure you want me talking to the cops.
She's lost her mind. Poor thing, the build is just beginning. Did they do anything at the site today? Or was builder thrilled that you were involved with tile issues and he didn't have to bust his "butt" to impress you guys today?
Well we can't let Candace talk to the cops!!! Then we're all headed to the jailhouse. And I'm not going to be able to make a great breakfast for us there. I'm sure they don't have fresh smoothie ingredients, and my special secret blend of coffee? Not a chance. You'd better handle it for us. And I'll be right behind you... Hiding!!!
Of course Angela :) I'm sure you'll be perfect!!!! Might need to practice if you can't talk your way out of anything.

Michele, know that phrase "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned". Well, that was me coming out of the tile store. I didn't go to the lot today, I went yesterday and all the wall forms were removed. Probably not going tomorrow but on the weekend for sure. I think the floor joists are arriving just after the long weekend or maybe that's when framing starts, lost track of that info, fretting over the details.
I've seen Angela be very diplomatic on here. I know she has it in her.

Kimdee, better be at the golf course, practicing that swing!!!!!

Hiding Michele.....I don't think so. We have your tie samples to blame for this one Hahahaha.
That's what happens, and of course the contractor loves that, he can go about his business, good or bad, without too much interference. Make sure you stay focused on things, especially during the framing stage when things are more easily remedied. I know it sounds anal, but it's really important. You want to know that they're following the plans and if not you need to know why it's not happening. Sometimes things will change, because the architects plans might be more wishful thinking than reality and at least you will be in on the decision for change. But only if you stay on top of them.
I'll be hiding and practicing my throwing star technique with little shards of porcelain tile, of course that's what I meant to say. I wouldn't just hide... Is that my mother calling me? Um, I'm coming mom!!! Hahaha, what do you know, I have to go now, but of course I'd stay to help you guys, it's just, well, ya know...
The dilemmas are not interesting tonight. Blah.
My goodness you ladies got giddy between me being in line at Costco and getting home.

I'd rather be an accomplice than a witness :)
Here Robin, here's some of my throwing stars, we can man the flanks, or flank some men. Not sure what any of that means, but it could be the most important part of this whole scheme. ;)
Well, I'm hoping to fall asleep with Conan tonight, even though I'd prefer Craig Ferguson, hahaha. But Craig stays up too late for me tonight. ;)
So I'll bid you all a good night, see you tomorrow.
    Morning Roo!! Countdown :)
