window waterproofing and install help

5 years ago

My Kolbe Forgent windows are being installed on Monday by an installer Kolbe distributor chose.

The sales guy originally told me they were using a waterproofing material called Vellum or something. Today I was told they were going to use Sherwin Williams Conflex.

Is this a good product? Is there anything I need to ask them or make sure they do? Installation is concrete block house in Florida. Windows are impact, casement, Kolbe Forgent Glastra material.

Feeling unprepared. DH us our GC.

@dan1888, thanks. I forgot about that document. I read it 6 months ago and need to reread.

@Mark Bischak, Architect-

“DH us our GC”

Old eyes and small phone screens lead to typos. :(

Dear Husband (DH) IS acting as our general contractor (GC).

Unfortunately, windows were delegated to me.

Conflex is a liquid "waterproofing" coating for concrete block and should have little to do with window installation.

Will the windows be attached to the face of the block or will they be recessed in the openings?

Here is a detail for the installation of a Kolbe casement window recessed in a masonry opening:

You should have a similar detail in the design drawing set or in the proposal Kolbe gave you. Such information should always be transmitted in writing or drawings on paper (rather than a digital link), and formally approved by the GC in writing so it becomes part of the construction contract.
