seating area in kitchen

Input needed on my almost done kitchen. kitchen still needs some last finishes like handles and backsplash. The light blue is just the plastic film that will come off when the plumber finishes. Island is navy blue.

We’d like to make the extra space into a small seating area for one or two people. No need for more than that as we have a living room and sunroom attached with ample seating.

How would you furnish the seating area?
Can I keep the buffet piece in dark brown?
Does the grey chair work?
Would you change the counter stools?
What color would you suggest for the walls?
Do I need a rug?

Absolutely! id get a second chair in a pattern and place where buffet is. buffet placed against wall w pictures is good spot. area Rug is always nice for coziness. try for color in a rug. Then think abt floor lamp for reading? small end table or lamp table between the chairs. just position the pictures a little higher and w buffet there, you can use the buffet top for a plant or fruit / snack bowl etc.

Your kitchen looks beautiful! I am doing the same thing in my new kitchen remodel by using the old breakfast nook as a sitting area. I am still waiting on furniture I ordered to come in, but it will consist of two club chairs and an ottoman, a table with a lamp between the chairs and I ordered an area rug to anchor the area and make it cozy. Can you use the gray chair elsewhere in your home and get two chairs that match? If there is room to place another chair and keep the buffet, then it would be a great area for decor you can change with the seasons or maybe a small cocktail bar/tray if your into that.

Hit post before I finished. What type of handles and plumbing fixtures are you using? Are you using pendant lights over the island?

Ahh, one of my favorite things Ive learned about in these forums: the keeping room. I would put 2 large comfy chairs and a table between. Yes, Id have a rug, so it feels cozy.

@davitma the handles will be a dark grey. Faucet is black stainless. I’m concerned that the buffet is the only dark brown piece in the room, but I love it and don’t have another spot for it in the house so I’m hoping to work it in.

I’d move the buffet under your artwork and use a runner on top to add seasonal color. Consider either having the buffet stripped to lighten the color, or even painting it cream, or painting just the drawer fronts in an island-coordinating medium blue. Grey doesn’t work for the chair. I’d get two comfy chairs and a rug with some blue in them to play off your island and add an ottoman large enough for both chairs to share (bonus extra seat). Add more texture in the form of throw and lumbar pillows. Add a side table between chairs with an interesting lamp (or lampshade).

Thanks Connie. Good idea to maybe strip or paint the buffet. I hate to get rid of it since it was an expensive piece that was gifted to us.
