help! design dilemma

I love the mirror and the console table separately, but I don’t know how to make them fit together! I am open to staining / painting the mirror or the console table but hope that’s the last resort. Any advice is appreciated!

Totally agree -- like both but not together.

Consider painting at least the outside of the mirror frame black or, better yet, add a black stripe to it -- the right "tape" would do - think ... stripe on the side of a car.

Or, if the mirror can be removed from the frame, paint the entire frame, inside black.

This came up when I googled automobile trim stripes.

You could add an interior black stripe next to the glass and a wider stripe covering the full outside.

If you do paint or cover part of the mirror frame but leave part of it showing, then consider searching for a small items the same color as the frame to set atop the table.

That definitely would help pull it all together!! Thank you!

These are great inspo pics! The hallway that I’m working with is actually quite narrow

ah, Ok. I see what you mean.

honestly, I don't care for the black/marble look console in that particular space. is there another spot wher you could use it?

Or, maybe if you changed up the items you have on it, and brought in a black/white type of runner?

and a cool pendant? a black and gold one would be perfect to marry the other items

    and used items like this,

or very organic looking vases and tall leaves

another option is to move the mirror elsewhere and do a great piece of art (or some cool black and white photos) over the console.

and since the back wall is visible when you come in the door, try hanging a nice piece of art above the towel bar to further tie in the black of the table.

this is the one I have in my bathroom/water closet

(we seem to have the same orange monster ;)

bring in something w/a little color if you like.

I’d suggest moving the two plants that you currently have to one side and getting a taller leafy arrangement for the other side. I love the pic above with the black/white runner and black pendant light.

If you had accessories on the console table that echoed tge color of tge mirror, it would probably tie them together.

@Beth H. : I think the mirror is actually a lighter wood (maple, maybe?) and not gold…the lighting is throwing it off in the pictures.

I think you either need to move the mirror down some or add some taller items to the console to make up for the large amount of wall space between the two pieces. As it is now, it looks like two pieces floating *separately* rather than two pieces floating *together* to form one bigger piece (aka cohesion). You can even keep what you have currently and just give them height - a stack of books, small chest/trunk (think jewelry-sized box), a cake stand underneath, etc. Just something to give them height if you don’t want to bring the mirror down or swap out the pieces.

Are you dead-set on the marble? Instead of staining or painting the mirror (and hoping for the best since you cant undo it), it’d be much easier to change the table top. Get some contact paper that coordinates with your mirror and cover the marble top and base of the console. There are many options these days and the quality has come a long way that you won‘t even be able to tell. Plus, it’s temporary! You can always swap it if you don’t like it, if you want to change it in the future, use the console elsewhere, get a different mirror that goes better with the marble, move, etc. I would go with a wood-looking one that coordinates with the mirror, which would be similar to the look in one of the photos @Beth H. : posted above.

Here’s a good option (be sure to check out the review images!)

How about if you took the mable top off and replaced it with maple butcher block? i love the mirror. I love maple in general.
