I have had this tree in the ground for over 3 years and it has a trunk at least 4 inches diameter. It produced over 100 fig last summer and I think it was because I had a good three months of hot weather. This is been a horrible year for growers every where at farms and even watermelons did not make it. It was a rainy cold July. Lost a whole month of growth. It saddens me to no end although we did need the inches of rain after years of drought, Can't win I guess with figs unless you live in a very sunny hot climate.

😟 Too sad, Mike. Such a disappointment. You Easterners have had a most unusual summer.

But even in CA I've had years where the Fall crop never ripened.... don't know why. This year I had a problem with the Italian Honey Figs being dry inside even tho' ripe. I guess I keep growing them because, when you get them perfectly ripe off the tree, there is nothing better.

Katie, thanks, I appreciate that. I can't believe that can happen to you too. I guess you made a great point though. Let's hope it's not a banner year next year and then the squirrels find out where they are. so far so good on those.. They find my potted ones on the other side of the house. Ugh.

Mayer Mike I have Italian Honey is ground 4th season it was 2 seasons old when I put it in ground, it ripened 6 breba this season for first time, but no main crop I don't know why.

Some tree are like that, I was reading the other day about two fig trees cutting where from one tree, rooted at same time, they both fruited in containers befor planted in ground, 4 years in ground one didn't fruit yet.

Sometimes they need time.

Did you fertilize it ? If yes, what fertilizer and when ?

Mike, I was just out checking the black fig tree and the standing fruit is all getting yellow and falling off instead of ripening and being delicious. RATS! Our days have been hot but the nights cool; I wonder if this has something to do with it. ???

Mike, mine are all bigger and I was waiting for them to get black... any day now. But nada. Then I discovered that I have been vieing with some critter for whatever gets ripe.... even the cherry tomatoes! I think my now-producing garden is an oasis for the hungry critters.

CA, those pesky over sized rats!!! I had a ripe one on my back steps I was waiting for for ever, then half eaten yesterday..Ugh

Not hungry, just greedy...
