David Austin catalog stated that for cold-zone and smaller size bush, leave it alone for latter flushes.

Wait until spring. Cali and the like are autumn pruning places. Leave as much as you can unless wind rock threatens to uproot the plant over winter. Unless cane hardy, pruning now removes length of cane that could survive since many roses seem to die from the tip down the cane until it reaches the crown or snowline. It literally gives less to work with in several fashions.

Eventually, your entire shrub will be these canes. Everything else it currently has is just baby growth.

You can stake a tall cane to help it over Winter. I hope it lives. Do not cut now.

If strong wind is a concern in your area, you may want to stake it.
