Kitchen Design Limitations

I would love feedback on this kitchen design. I have compiled some favorite layouts from Houzz. We have one wall, and it has windows. Fortunatley, we have a large nearby mudroom that will also have pantry storage.

I personally dislike a stove in front of a window…almost as much as on an island. BUT …an island stove would be my choice in this situation.

do you need 3 entry points out to that rear courtyard? to the right of fridge...if you cant close that one and move the range there...and [fridge placed to left of window] then place the narrower opening to courtyard there and the french doors or slider around on the side......Range and hood then to be placed to right of window with more wall space available. and fridge to left of window . At the same time you can lengthen the island. What is the purpose of the short wall off to side of island.....w shallow depth cabinets????? just make the island longer ...you'll have more drawers more counter more seating.

Getting an architect involved in your house design will benefit you greatly. Once the house issues are worked out, the details of the kitchen can be determined.

I like the direction herbflavor is going, but I'd make the French doors a single, split the kitchen window, and make the one on each side of the hood wider. With no upper cabinets on that wall to help contain the grease and steam plume, hood should be 6" wider than the cooktop.

Move the short wall over, in line with the stairs, and make the island longer. I'd put the MW (I drew a 30" drawer) closer to the fridge, facing the short wall, so users aren't standing in the work aisle. Seating on two sides is more conducive to conversation, but the disadvantage is the need for a large slab, so might require a seam:

If you have enough floor space, you could also consider making the perimeter counters deeper, to match the depth of a standard fridge box.

In addition to the comments above, the placement of the powder room is odd, and it creates a pinch point into the walkway from the kitchen to whatever that L-shaped back area is. Which is very odd as well. What is that square room off the bathroom with the door in the middle of the wall? Further to Mark's comment, who designed this house? Is it a new build or a renovation? Hiring a good architect would be a very wise investment.

I never like a pantry outside the working area of a kitchen and really dislike walk in pantries a total waste of space . As for the rest get an independant kitchen designer and for sure not your architect, most of them are not good at kitchen design. I agree no range in front of a window . If you really want help here you need to post a to scale floor plan showing all windows , doorways and areas next to the kitchen BTW 28" wide drwers for pots are pretty small I would not do useless 8" wide storage but 36" wide drawers are awesome for pot and pan storage BTW never a sink directly opposite a cooking applance since those 2 places are the busiest in the kitchen

Thank you all for the suggestions! This was the inspiration house for our house build: https://www.amicalolahomeplans.com/falls-watch The kitchen is great for a vacation rental but we would like more storage and work space in addition to windows that look out the front. We also have a magnificent north facing view out the back which is why we want to keep the kitchen placement where it is.

More cowbell, I mean cabinets. I would either widen the island and have cabinets that face both sides or add a tall pantry cabinet next to your half wall if its load bearing and you can't just extend the counters and cabinets all the way to the fireplace. As professional general contractors in Fremont, I would recommend getting an architect involved in your house design will benefit you greatly.

I can't really tell what the short wall next to the island is -- as you've drawn it, there's no walking space between it and island, so I hope that's just a not-to-scale issue...
