Yea, leave it be and see what it does next spring.

give it next season to regrow the lost root mass .. and then after bloom [if any] .... research renovation pruning of lilac ... and cut parts of it down ... which over a year or 3.. you will totally renovate the plant ...

its not quite a tree in tree time... counted in decades ... but it is a shrub so it needs a year or so to recover ..

in other words.. it need more time than a perennial.. but less time than a tree to recover the root mass lost in the move ...

next summer.. insure proper deep watering to encourage such .. not just relying on lawn irrigation ...

also... next years buds should be there now.. so never prune a lilac in fall .. unless you dont mind losing a year of bloom ... which is no big deal to the plant ..

If you want more of a tree form, let it be. Once you start hacking at it, suckers will pop up and start a thicket.

Ok thank you. I would prefer a shrub form, so will prune after bloom next spring, if needed.
