Hydroponics Cleaning Tips

How do I get my water be clean?

We are in high school working on our Botany lab and the cups that are holding our seeds are building up a foamy scum on the outside of the cup. We think it's coming from the water. Is there a way to clean the water without completely getting rid of it?

What are the cups made of? Where are you getting your water? And what is your planting medium?

Our cups are shot glass solo cups that are similar to netting cups. Our water is just from the sinks and we are recirculating it. Our planting medium is fish rocks. We're pretty new to this so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

We also added typical garden nutrients to the water

The foamy scum is coming from the garden nutrients. Why are you feeding unsprouted seeds?
