Please post pics of your kitchen from several different angles. if it opens to other rooms/spaces, show them too.

Painting cabinets properly is very expensive and it is hard to guess what a future buyer will like. And then, unfortunately, the “best bet” is white. Natural wood is making a huge comeback — not that it was ever really out.

Leave the cabinets alone. The next buyer will likely pull them out anyway and start fresh. Agree with the comment to de-clutter the counters and take down the curtains.

If you are aiming to sell, anything you do will be wasted money. Declutter every surface, style the cabinets, take down the curtains and free as much visual space as you are able.

I agree with previous comments. Don't waste time and money on painting those cabinets. For your real estate listing (when photos are being taken of your home for the listing) and for showing, you want every surface bare. Naked. Unadorned. With nothing on them. Walls, counters, cabinets, windows, remove it all.

Just piping in to agree with the others, don’t need to paint cabinets there’s no benefit. Remove what’s on walls, counters, the glass cabinet shelves. Even the tablecloth off (and def no place settings on a table unless you are about to sit down to eat, otherwise keep the place settings off). You might find that the space looks so much larger and open that you won’t want to move.

I'd just remove the valances and the wallpaper. Paint the walls a warm white. Leave the rest alone as a new buyer will likely want to start with something new. When you're ready to sell, take away all the accessories on the walls and everywhere so the space looks larger and more open.

I you’re looking to paint for you to enjoy while you’re there ,I would vote for a green to go with what is there. I think that would not be off putting for most buyers . I agree that it’s probably not worth it just for the resale. I’m not a designer so I’m not sure what shade of green is best.

Thank you everyone! When/if I sell I had planned on stripping the kitchen bare. Walls, valances, roosters, counters, etc. But that won't be for several years, if at all. I hate those cabinets so! They are 35 years old! The rest of the house is traditional/transitional. I appreciate everyone's suggestions. Thank you!

If you want a green color for the walls, try SW Liveable Green. It's a soft green without too much gray or yellow.

I was actually thinking of a warm white for the walls (not that much wall except above, under and on sides of large front window). The green I was thinking of for the cabinets.

Since you hate the cabinets now, will you like them better in another color? It's your preference that counts. They will still be 35 years old and function the same way after you spend money to paint them.

I'm pretty sure I will like them in another color! I'm a good painter. Painted rooms and furniture in my home and friend's homes. I can get the paint wholesale. Hardest part is degreasing and deglossing them. I'm retired so I have the time and energy......lol

Blue is my favorite color. Can't see it on my cabinets though.

Try lining up your colorful rooster collection on a table. Pick a color from the roosters, then test a couple shades lighter on foamcore boards.

If you're painting the cabinets for yourself, I think green can work. I wouldn't do it if you're just trying to increase resale. But if it makes you happy while you're there, it won't harm resale either. I'd start with just the uppers and then see if you want to continue. You may want to keep the lowers as they are when you see how much work it is, and green can be combined with your stained cabinets.
