I say try it. Right now you can’t really use that door anyway because of the shoe population. I see your dilemma. If you plan on staying in the condo long term, then perhaps have a professional give an opinion on more permanent and aesthetically pleasing solutions. I personally hate any double doors and would do what you’re thinking of. It will look better than what you have. Oh, please know I’m not meaning to insult your clutter. Trust me, I’m the last person to nag about that. (I also have double doors and only one gets used.)

Is there room for a bench/shoe holder on the wall across from the kitchen? If so, I would place it there. I would also add a colorful rug runner, and if you really want to add a little spice….maybe paint the doors a nice color.

How practical is it to have that opening to the kitchen. Can you use the wall space in the kitchen and a solid wall in the hall? Thus, consider closing it up.

Blocking a door, even if not used, is a very awkward look. If measurements allow, a low cabinet on the long wall opposite the kitchen would be perfect for shoe storage. A nice piece of art above and some decor on the top and you’re done.

Not sure of the rest of your decor but my last home we used a large rectangular basket by the door for shoes. It looked great and worked well for us. Very easy to move when needed.
