Sheila, that's really a pretty rose. It looks healthy, too, at least for you. While I usually have good luck with hybrid musks, Western healthy doesn't necessarily translate to Eastern healthy, I know. I wonder why it isn't more popular? Is it fragrant? It looks like something that needs to go on my list. BTW that photo is frame-worthy!

I really don't know why this rose isn't more common, Kes. I got mine from ARE. I think it would be worth calling Mike Shoup at Antique Rose Emporium for more clues about how it does in the East. Bubble Bath to the right is another that should be more common.

I will be contacting ARE eventually to replace some of the roses that were lost to voles. I've noticed they carry AaAdl'A but seem to be out of it. Bubble Bath is another one I don't hear about much.Yours is looks great! In fact, the first photo that shows both these roses with a dark purple one is worth copying.

Kes, I also don’t know why this rose is uncommon. It seems like a really good one! I believe Josh from TX grew it, too, but he no longer posts. Doesn’t Chris have a Bubble Bath? I’ll have to check his last Hybrid Musk thread. I don’t hear as much about Hybrid Musks these days, which is a shame since it is a wonderful class of roses!

Sheila, I came back again to look at your photos and am wondering: Is the habit of your AaAdL similar to Felicia’s habit? From your pics, it looks like it to me. I love the old Tea look of AaAdL’s blooms and the lovely shade of salmon pink, and Inlove Felicia’s habit! I think if I were getting another Hybrid Musk, this just might be the one I’d choose. Lisa should see it. I know she adores her Felicia, and AaAdL seems like another that is right in line with her preferences! I know she has other concerns on her plate right now and is not in the market for another rose, but it could be delicious food for thought. Carol

Yes, Carol, I think the AaAdL and Felicia have similar habits. They would look lovely together. My Aa is near Reine des Violette which is not the best color combination.

Does anyone know where these roses are available to purchase? I’ve searched and searched and only found they’re out of stock. I’m planting a memorial garden, and I’m looking for this Alma rose in honor of our granddaughter Alma who passed away.

Thank you…your rose roses are truly stunning! Sadly ,ARE is out of stock…I’ve searched everywhere, and even tried ordering from outside U.S but learned that’s not possible for numerous reasons. Shoot, fingers crossed someone knows a source!

I’ve been waiting for that very rose myself. Every time I’ve checked in the last year or so, ARE is out of stock on that one. Hopefully this spring it will come back in?

I hope Jana sees this. As soon as I noticed that ARE was once again open for business, I checked this one for availability and ordered it. I would imagine others will be doing the same as this rose hasn't been widely available. If fall planting is chancy for someone's area, a request for spring delivery might be possible.

Sheila, your Andenken an Alma is a very pretty rose, and your photography is so atmospheric and romantic. What really blew me away, though, was your beautiful Reine de Violettes. Does it demand to be a tall and arching grower as it seems to indicate on HMF? I'm very limited in my new rose growing area but this rose is just so seductive. How has the rebloom and disease resistance been for you. So sorry for hijacking this thread!

I got my RdV from ARE, Ingrid, and it is modest in size here. It seemed to enjoy that organic fertilizer for acid lovers like Diane uses (Lily Miller). I would not be without the rose. It does rebloom and seems healthy but not very vigorous. My soil here is sub par. It might be much larger for Jackie or others with better conditions.

I'm almost on the brink of ordering RdV, and thank you for the information, Sheila. Healthy but not very vigorous would be great as I have so little space because of trees and shrubs in that area. The only thing giving me pause is that it is thornless, and I still have my ground squirrels.
