Hello there Sparky. He's a cutie...............I am amazed at how tall that scape is. That's incredible. It really shows up with Bob holding it............I agree that it's rather frustrating not to get all your "chores" done so that you have them left over to do in the spring. I'm spending most of my time just watering it's been so dry for the last month or more and I hope our first freeze holds off so that I can finally sit down and see what I've been working to maintain throughout the hot summer months................I like that purple dayliliy. What a scape on that first one! Do you have a photo to show what the bloom looks like? It's nice that you have a few seedlings reblooming. I had one seedling reblooming earlier in the week, but it's done now. I don't see any more scapes coming, so I think we're out of daylily blooms here.

That is a very tall scape! Bud count is great too! Too bad if the first one dies since it shows it could be a real winner. And Spark is a cutie!

Those are tall scapes! I dont see how you do what you do-such work! Planting as many seedlings as you do, evaluating, moving selects….I get tired just thinking about that energy!!! Sparky looks like a good supervisor for that work! That hibiscus is lovely in all those shades of color.

Debra, I think the following photo is the tall seedling. We planted a bunch of the same cross and they all look similar. Many of them were well budded, though not as tall. Sonoran Desert Rose tends to give good scapes. These are all late bloomers too.

As far as the work is concerned, we are really overwhelmed this year. Bob and I usually work a couple of hours in the garden after he gets off from work. We got behind on weeding and just never got caught up. We hope next year is different. We really want to cut the collection down by at least 300-400 plants and even more if we can. We have too many that we just don't pay any attention to so they should go. We are also out of room. We have a spot to put one more little bed and then that is it. I didn't make as many seeds this year (only about 1500+) so that should help for next year.

We get behind in the spring since we have so many news ones to plant. That will not happen next year. We might buy a few in Canada (if the Can-Am is held) and we will get a few club plants, but I don't intend to buy any more. I haven't even looked at the Lily Auction recently.

Sparky is our constant companion in the garden. We used to have a dog Missy that followed us around the garden. Missy died several years ago and then we got Riley. Riley is lazier. He will sniff around and then go sit in the shade, usually on the patio. Then he begs to go in. He doesn't like the hot weather. It's Sparky that following us around now. I call him my hood ornament because as soon as we stop the gator, he jumps on the hood and lies there. He doesn't even want to move when we start the engine. He also feels the need to fertilize any new tilled earth we are working with. He is a sweet cat.

Nancy: Wonderful pic showing the scapes on that seedling. Wow, that is one big plant. I feel your pain with all that work. We had a cat named Sparky too. Yours looks like he enjoys having a bit of shade from his perch.
