Thanks for the response! The contractor says ” he is working on it”. it was subcontracted out. I didnt say in original post but they picked my lock on my fence to even get into the yard! finding lots of other things now. lots of scratches on the downspouts and diferent finishes of the aluminum used! some are gloss finish and some are matt finish! downspout extension in other area are cut way to short and they took my extra extensions that I had used before with them! i heard from someone else they are to give u 24 hrs notice to do work in your yard or on your house. if they dont it is considered trespassing!

Don't pay. They sound like hacks... They may of course file a lien.

That said, where do you want to put the downspout? Have you planned where you actually want them and notified the contractor? Water does have to drain somewhere

That looks like a 'U' shape house surrounding the patio? So where do you suggest a downspout go with a lower roof on the addition? You had gutters before, where were they routed?

To present the other side of the coin, it seems they picked a color to go with the shingle color rather than the darker fascia. And whenever I receive estimates from gutter companies, they all have a little diagram on the estimate form that shows gutters, downspouts, and a generic leader length. And they remove all the old stuff to cleanup the site.

I didnt ask for an additional gutter. see new picture there is one to the left of last window and also one right around the corner that isnt showing in picture. . I had a new roof, they suggested new gutters, went along with it so everything was new' did not have any drainage problems with how the old ones were! the garage roof on the right is the same height as the middle part.

My estimate was the total price for roof and gutters. it was not broken down. i picked the shingles and he said I could pick the gutter color when they came because the have ll the colors on the truck! my big beef is they picked my lock to get in and came without telling me. we were scheduled for Thur and they came on Wed. And added a downspout that I dont need that drains onto a concrete slab. we are in northern Il. this is on the northside of the house. i now will have an icy patio that I could fall or my dog! if they would have come when they were susposed to we wouldnt have this problem because I would have been home!

Ok, so I take it the old gutter over the sliding door did not have a downspout, and just carried into the gutter on the garage, which then had a downpout at the outside corner of the garage/patio. If so, did you ever have overflowing at the back corner along the sliding door wall?

You can eliminate that inside corner downspout easily, but a continuous gutter slope from that corner, carrying through and turning to the outside corner of the garage, needs to be enough to drain the water coming from 2 roofs. And is that a 2x3 or 3x4 downpout?

Have you paid complete for the entire job? Did the estimate (signed) say any specifics about the gutters and downpouts?
