Dining Room transformation ?

We have a cape cod style home. Upon entering the front door you have to walk through the dining room to get to the kitchen and family room. It’s so awkward. We only use the dining room for dinners once or twice a year but we walk thru it constantly. I have an idea to replace the table with an L shaped banquet (like from Ballard). The longer side would go against the wall where the buffet is and shorter side coming out from it at the room entrance near the front door. Of course the chandelier would have to move. I think it would create a sort of walkway. Is that going to make the room look out balance? We do have a large centered window that faces the front. Thanks for your advice.

Without seeing a floor plan it’s hard to say for sure, but that the casual, asymmetrical furniture/seating arrangement you are proposing won’t look right in that formal looking space. Your dining room is lovely, by the way!

If you post your whole first floor floorplan you might get some comments with other options for solving your problem. Also include some pictures so we can get an idea of what your style is. I love the room as it is because it is my style. If you now prefer a different style we need to know that to help.
