Why not continue your wood flooring into the kitchen for a more cohesive look? It looks like those are cabinets on the front (living space) side of your peninsula . They give it an odd look. Do you use them much? Can they be removed to make room for bar stool seating? I also don't care for the thinness of the countertop. Would be much more substantial looking if there were an apron around the perimeter. As for your kitchen cabinets I think I would recommend white for uppers and lowers. Since your kitchen and living area are open concept I think it would make the most sense to have wall, cabinetry, etc. a consistent color to make your space more visually cohesive. Good luck!

While gray cabinets are still popular they are a bit of a fad that is about to be retired. If you do gray cabinets your kitchen will look dated almost before you are finished remodeling. Go with white or wood. They are timeless.

I would definitely keep the same flooring throughout. In an open concept like yours, one floor style is far better.

I agree with others, I vote matching / continuing the wood throughout on the floors. I think it will look really good once you get new cabinets.

No fake marble floor. Matching wood only. No gray cabinets. Pick a real color.

I don’t agree with posters who say grey is a fad (it’s been going strong for about a decade). Sure, it will be less popular and certain combinations are going to be a bit dated, but grey itself is fine. That said, I don’t think you should do grey in your space. You have a lot of warm colors and even a warm grey I think would be drab. I’d do white. I think it will play nicer with the orange tones in your main floor which is visible from the kitchen even if you do the marble tile in there.

I also used to believe you should continue wood floors into the kitchen for a continuous flow until I had a leak from my “almost new” fridge while I was away for the weekend……what a mess! Try to find porcelain floor tiles rather than ceramic. It’s a harder product and you can have thinner grout lines. As for cupboards, it’s popular nowadays to have two-tone kitchens, white cupboards on top - colour on lower. Everything goes out of fashion at some point. Go with what you like.

Storybook Home: I don't care if gray is a fad or right on point. I find it seriously depressing. Definitely not needed in this home, in any case.

As far as floor: I can see pros and cons for wood all the way through, or tile. You do have a demarcation between the kitchen and out of the kitchen. Pick up more samples ,and see.

We also have wood floors in the kitchen and had a “little” leak while out of town. Got new wood flooring because I love it. Also added….a shutoff valve to turn off water to the interior of the house when we are gone (often). Now “oreet” makes me want to check the two refrigerators’ drain lines!!
We will do that when we return in two months.

White kitchens have been popular since the 1920s ( mostly because it was the only choice). However, that being said, white cabinets are unlikely to look dated as they are the quintessential classic kitchen.

I don't love the idea of a marble look tile floor as that makes me picture something light and shiny that would show every speck of dirt. However, I am definitely a fan of tile floors in kitchens. The house I moved into 18 months ago has wood and I loathe it. I always had tile before. There are hundreds of options in tile colors. Settle on a cabinet color and then look at tile options. If you go with white cabinets (which would be my choice), make sure not to choose a bright white. With your existing adjacent wood floors you should use a warm white. Be sure to bring tile samples home to view against the wood floors.
