Add drapes and get rid of those blinds. Change light fixture and add colorful rug. Buy some greenery too.

My concern with a floral arrangement would be the potential for disaster if little hands pulled on the runner. A wooden bowl centerpiece with seasonal decorations would add color and be a little safer for children.

I love your table, you could change colors to make it funnier, use brilliant colors like dark yellow (mickye's shoes), change the lamp for bigger ond and more fancy one and Decorate the walls behind the table with frames with your kids pic's...try to change the courtains for a lighter option.
The couch looks couchy and keep it like that and added some colrfull cushions. The cofee table could be replace by one with glass

Like the rug suggestion. Consider painting chair back and legs. Black for classic to pick up metal art work on wall or if you added an area rug you could pick an accent from it to paint chairs and add throw pillows. Also like tall plants.. They add life to any setting
