a warm October in Indianapolis

Great Expectations and the unknown beside it look nice..we have leaves falling but have summer temperatures..in some years my tropicals were in the house by now..we had a "severe storm" in the forecast..wind.."large hail"..we put the tropicals that don't go dormant on the porch..the storm wasn't severe (yay!)..wasn't a waste to move the plants..they'll be going through the front door soon..in the morning we'll put them on the steps..
the squirrels are still aggravating me..it's like they had a party on this log Lol..
Coast to Coast..I love it..as usual made a rock barrier to deter squirrels..

That's funny about the squirrels partying on that log. It looks like it was a good time! They better be some good entertainment in winter to make up for the aggravation they've caused you. .....You still have some hostas that are looking good.

I've also started bringing the plants I save up closer to the house like you did, and have a few inside already.

Because of drought our secondary water for the gardens was turned off a month early, so it was an early end to a tough gardening season, but luckily we've had some good rain the last few days. Already had our first hard freeze last night.

beverlymn..I'm a pushover for gold hostas..they stand out in my shade..

sandyslopes..I have a lot of logs..it was so funny that they used only that one log..I don't get it??..

is a freeze by this time normal for you?..we're above average..I like it but I know the end is near..

nw, this time of year is about right for a freeze, then the temps. will bounce around for a bit. But no matter how long I've lived here I'm never ready for the cold. My brain is resistant to winter, lol.

sherry, I know squirrels can be a pita, but that one asleep on the chair is pretty adorable! Our squirrels are not that much of a problem so I can be more charitable towards them. Better them than the foxes and a coyote (SCARY!) that I've seen lately.

sherry..78 today!..my land is wet too..

that pic's hilarious..maybe since he uses the cushion he won't chew on it..I tried forks too..didn't work..

it takes energy to dig and chew..they get tired 😂..

sandyslopes..I looked up our average first frost date..Farmer's Almanac says Oct 14..we have the same schedule!..like you I'm "resistant to winter"..🙁

    Undulata Albomarginatas still look nice..

    Blue Angel..

    Regal Splendor..

and my favorite..a new Krossa Regal..didn't need them but bought 2 more this summer..one is still unplanted..

NW, If I remember correctly you were the creator of the “forktress” Those forks actually slowed the squirrels down til the end of August, they got mad then and started the removal.

Sherry..I heard the term "forktress" and did post about it..it helped for awhile?..this year I tried broken branches..another failure..wish I knew of a foolproof solution..

I like the sleeping squirrel too, cutie pie. I don’t mind the squirrels even though I put stones around the hostas they dig by……..did you know if a squirrel’s tail is torn off, it will regrow???? We have a little one here who showed up with a red stump. I was so worried, I thought he would die. But 4-5 days later I noticed that the stump was not red anymore……then noticed it was getting furry and now it’s regrown about half way. You can certainly pick him/her out of the others……..but not for long!! ;-)

Sherrygirl, the best anti-digging solution that has worked for me is stones. Not little ones, but small lannon stone, which I happen to have a lot of.
Here’s Frosted Mouse Ears with its “iron wall” so to speak……. 😂
