SPC Floors buckling?

Hi all,

I am installing Garrison SPC flooring for a client. The contractor installed yesterday and it is buckling in areas where sun hits through windows. Is this a product error or an installation error? Seems crazy that a product would buckle from sun through windows.

IMO it will depend on how hot the floor got from the sun most vinyl plank does not handle direct sun well . I would suggest to your client they get some solar shades for those windows ASAP since the sun will also fade fabric and wood furniture. BTW you should know this about vinyl plank flooring

Did the installer acclimate the flooring before installation? If not, that's installer error.

It’s a specifications issue. Vinyl is well noted for expanding significantly in sunlight. It’s not suited to areas with uncovered windows that allow direct sunlight on the floors.

Sorry but as a designer you should have some knowledge about all items you choose for clients . These poor choices come back to bite you down the road.

Yes I do have knowledge and am confident in my abilities. Thank you for your advice!

Magnífico yes, thanks, I did read that. It’s interesting, though, because a house will always have some area that at some point in the day will be exposed to sunlight through a window. I’ve never had this actually happen before, and certainly not in October at just 75 outside!

Well, you get to buy them new floors, as your choice isn’t functional in their situation, so I would say that your over confidence in your ability to read the directions is misplaced.

Man, I wasn’t even trying to be offensive to you. I came on this site to get some community and instead it’s just trolls

The situation isn’t about you. It’s about the clients. They put their trust in you. You failed them. Now, do you learn from that and take care of them? And then read the specifications the next time? Or do you continue to just use stuff that is pretty that doesn’t work?

It literally took 2 minutes to find that info. And I already knew I’d find it, because of knowledge of the product type, typical ”syndromes”, and the flooring industry as a whole. Yet you disregarded it. Why?

Because this is why contractors can’t stand most designers. They screw up, and want to blame the contractors instead of thinking it could possibly be their fault. There are a few good trained ones, that do their homework, and accept blame. They're rare. Which do you want to be? Buy your client new floors. And if you don’t understand the specifications, ask your *qualified* flooring contractor before you ever show it to the client.

Patricia Colwell Consulting you are rude. Magnifico Profounde where did Archival Interiors say this was about her? Just help her out and answer her questions and make your point without being rude. This is why a lot of people can't stand contractors and some interior designers, because they are rude and think they know it all. There are a few good trained ones, that do their homework, and accept blame. They're rare. Which are you? Lol.

I was looking at Zodiac too. Our installer said that it's too new of a product. He likes Garrison, but suggested I stay away from Zodiac @Cindi Kirke

Hi Shannon, the deed is done installing in 3 weeks. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm a little nervous, but loved the flooring so much.
