Painters tape tearing

Can anyone tell me why my tape is doing this? I applied this and painted last night so I don’t think it’s been on too long. I’ve followed the directions online to score the tape and pull back on the tape in the direction it was applied but it’s still tearing and leaving these small pieces. Is it just not the right tape for the project? Am I missing something else?
