What is your goal? I see two floodlights lighting up the yard so far. So are you now trying to aesthetically wash the facade with light? Just the upper gable on this back side, not any other walls? And the same on front, only the upper gable?

Realize in back you have the chimney that will cast shadows either side no matter what method you choose to light up the facade.

"facade" is just a term for a flat exterior wall face.

You can do spotlights, which would require mounting to the deck, a pole, or maybe adjacent roofs. You can do recessed soffit lights. You can do LED continuous tape lights. Each version has its pros and cons depending on your goals.

Though anything you do may seem a little odd to just light up either side of the chimney, just above the windows. For the front can't make an opinion without seeing it and knowing your goals.

My neighbors have a design where they (pardon my description), placed one light in the lower left corner of the triangle and alternated the position the length of the house. The first and last ”triangle” are in opoosite corners, making it look balanced to me. Could be cooncidence, but that type aesthetic appeals to me. I asked for info from them, but rhey have not replied.

I’m looking to do the same thing but I would like a surface mount/ flush led light pointing down . I would like it in the gable or the pitch what ever you call it the triangle part of the under roof .? Any ideas ?

If you just want to generally light up the facade, low voltage spot lighting at grade is probably best to light up the entire vertical wall from grade to roof, rather than just highlight the "crook" of a gable.
