If you don't care for the sidelight windows or even need any light coming through, then double doors are your choice to consider. We have no sidelights (not enough space), and door was 36" solid. Had it replaced with a 2/3 glass door to let light in. Since it's a covered entrance doesn't get direct sunlight. Glass is in chinchilla so cannot see in or out but lets just the right amount of light in. You could change the glass in your sidelights maybe so wouldn't need roller shades.

Will that make your entry dark? We had solid double doors when we moved in and replaced them with one oversized door and one sidelight. It made such a huge difference! Will your double doors have glass in them? You could do a textured glass for privacy.

Doule doors look nice but are not really useful. Generally only one side is used anyway.

Loss of light a big factor. Why would you put a roller shade on a sidelite?

I would want roller shades for privacy. I also think sidelights are a security risk.

We have sidelights with frosted windows so lots of light comes in but it’s private. I much preferred it with no frosting but our dog was very stressed by it. I did not think it was a security concern in the least.

Consider using obscure laminated glass in sidelites and you have both safety and privacy while keeping the look of the original

Tough choice; sidelights are welcoming yet revealing. Our front entry is dark and I wish I had more light, but I like the privacy of no window there. Sidelights covered with shades give the exterior a welcoming appearance, but a dark entry remains dark.

Don't have sidelight on current home, but did have one on previous home.

Can be adjusted to let in some light, or see who is at the door.

Did it right down to the bottom, something like this.

If you only have a half window, still do it down to the bottom to make it

    look more appealing.

I wouldn't do the rod. Makes it less busy without it.

I LOVE glass front doors, because I LOVE light!! I just have a single full light front door with micro mini's between the glass. Love that I can regulate light and/or have privacy. There are so many options available for glass doors. Everything from very contemporary to art deco, to leaded, to stained. My vote is to go with the double doors. My 36" door was an issue when I bought a new refrigerator, so would have been so simple with double door, plus less banging up of woodwork when other things are moved in and out. The delivery people had to take the handles off to get it in!

Would have been so much easier to take the door off. Just take the pins out of the hinges

(of the front door not the fridge).

Done now and they did the work. But thank you for the input! Next time:)

Double doors are great. If you like them, use them. I personally found them fantastic for letting in breezes, light, the great outdoors, as well as moving. Would definitely use them again if the opportunity arose. Besides, I just think they look wonderful and inviting :)
