MSI Calacatta Ida vs Calacatta Montage

Trying to decide between these two for our kitchen reno Going with medium tone cool grey shaker cabinets Another factor driving these choices is the fact theyre both made on Breton technology. I was lucky enough to speak with an MSI rep yesterday who provided me the Breton made list. At this point I’m not considering any colors or brands that are non-Breton manufactured as I’m concerned about quality issues.

Runners up to these two are New Carrara Marmi and Cashmere Carrara.

Would love to see pics or hear about anybody’s experience with these four colors.

Now leaning away from Montage as my husband feels it looks a little fake in the pictures Ida though is still tops on our list Adding Carrara Lumos as well.

Again these are all verified Breton technology colors that i verified with sales

Would love to hear experiences with any of these color choices as well as see in home pics!

I’m so sad Calacatta Miragio Gold isn’t there! 😭

Oh Same! I actually changed my mind to Carrara Lumos after going back 50x convincing myself Breton technology didn't matter only to read up on it again to find out it absolutely does. Both of these options in the title are on the list but after seeing them in person they are too dark. I need something with a bright white background. Lumos doesn't have the long veining that Miraggio has but it absolutely fits every other bill.

Oh I have bright white cabinets, too! I’ll have to look at Carrara Lumos. I’ve also considered skipping this brand altogether, but you can’t beat the price!

If you have bright white cabinets I'd absolutely look at Carrara Lumos. It's the same level of white as Miraggio, but it's carrara veining as opposed to calcacatta. I'm doing medium cool grey cabinets with mine.

    Beautiful!

Thanks! I was also leaning heavily towards either Calacatta Clara or Trevi but the Breton technology issue got the best of me and I changed it to Lumos. Glad I did anyways as even those seemed a bit darker than I wanted when compared to Lumos.

Do you know if there are any colors that have the longer veining but are still bright white and use Breton technology?

Sure. Calacatta Botanica is on the list and is pretty white. I feel that Lumos as a bit more depth (it’s part of the Lumelux line) but if you are looking for bright white it should work.

Julianne just curious, did you make a decision yet?

I am SO undecided. I’m now thinking of doing fantasy brown or a lighter granite to save money. But I do love the simple clean look of quartz. I’m also afraid of whites clashing. I’m probably the most indecisive person ever so that’s doesn’t help!

Yeah nailing down white on a countertop is hard. I’m pretty surprised at how few true white options there are not just with MSI but with all the brands. Lumos is a true white and probably the closest thing I can find that will match a plain white ceramic tile. I wish it had a Calacatta pattern as opposed to Carrara but it’s at least very realistic looking and has nice depth.

I keep seeing horror stories about quartz staining and chipping in a kitchen group I’m in. I’m sure that’s not always the case, but I’m nervous not using a Cambria or Silestone quality quartz. They are just beyond our budget since we have so much Reno to do to the whole house. Knowing Lumos is Breton technology does help me feel better though.

Julianne I’m not sure if you’ve picked something yet but I saw my slab of Carrara Lumos today which will be installed Friday. The fabricator showed me the template.

It is indeed a very true bright white. Probably whiter than any other color I’ve seen - it’s indeed on the same plane as miraggio. I’m so stoked words cannot describe it! My kitchen has all shaker cabinets with hard square edges. I think the Carrara pattern will soften it a bit which is a good thing.

Would love to hear where you are at with yours.

Oh this is so awesome to hear! I’m going to a place to see samples of it again tomorrow.

Excellent can’t wait to hear what you finally pick!

Carrara Lumos is now installed! Tile backsplash goes in next week!

I found this thread when searching on Houzz for Calacatta Ida, just saying thanks to everyone for the information sharing!

I have a few quartz colors by MSI that I'm considering (and a few by Cosmos). Since I think this thread is about a year old, I was curious if there was an updated list of the MSI quartz colors that use Breton technology, so I emailed MSI.

After a few frustrating email exchanges (the customer service rep on the email had no idea what I was asking for based on her replies) someone from MSI called me and said they do not give out the list because it is proprietary information

She said once I narrow down my choices I can email them a list of colors I'm considering and they will let me know which of those use Breton. She also tried to tell me that it doesn't matter if it uses Breton, all MSI quartz are covered by the same warranty, but I feel if the product is superior to begin with (and fabricated and installed correctly) there is less chance of something going wrong and needing to use the warranty! Plus in my experience, many companies make it very hard to use the warranty, they come up with excuses. Just my opinion.

Again thanks to all contributors on this post, very helpful with my decision making! :-)

I would look into Calacatta Bellezza Quartz, It's by far the most subtle, elegant and neutral natural looking quartz I have seen in the market
