Is Cable lighting enough?

We are trying to light a 2.5 story interior area - imagine a barn with an open cupola above. The space is roughly 14 x 12. We intend to use it as a dining room for now with the table placed off center but future uses could include a library or other sitting space. We are in constructon right now so photos wouldn't really show the space well. We can't use lights hanging from the ceiling because we want to put a large ceiling fan at about the 12-14 foot height. A lighting designer has suggested Tech Lighting Cable Lights with a run of 3 cables across the space and staggered rotating heads so that some could be pointed upwards to highlight the open atrium space. We visited two restaurants that use them and while I LOVED the look, I'm concerned about whether they will provide enough light. It appears that each of the small recommended heads is 20 watts?

Also - it looks like the low voltage options that Tech Lighting offers is really expensive if we wanted to add heads or change out the look. Are there other sources that would work on this system?

For those of you who have used it, are you satisfied with the amount of light these systems give?

Thanks!
