I need a lot mor einfo as to the light in the space , natural and nightime . An art studio is first and foremost a work space and honestly not really a space for too much decor .If kids use the other space , how old are they . Kids can make a huge mess with art supplies in a very short time.Most of my art is more design work so I love a drafting table but in your situation I would look for a large table on casters to move where the light is best at different imes . This to me is an art studio look where everything is reachable and not hidden away.

Buy a sturdy metal leg folding table and put a 4' x 6' piece of 1 inch plywood on top. Paint it enamel white.

This has been my main table for 20 years and works great. Looks good too. Good enough anyway. I have table top easels and big H style floor easels too.

My son was looking for the right table in the end someone at the Ikea store advised him in actually buying a dining table- works fine and looks great!

This is what I have in my glass studio - they’re 8 cube “cubbies (I actually have an 8 and a 4 on each side, but you could do just an 8 on each side) sitting on a 4x4 (to bring it up a bit taller) and then topped with a 4x8 sheet of 3/4” finished plywood - then a quilter’s self healing mat on top. Gives you tons of space on top - that quilter’s mat is impervious to just about anything, and tons of storage space below!

In terms of light and light direction, I put up 6 can/high hat lights and I have a central light - so its pretty bright (maybe too bright). There is a bank of windows on facing east but they are flush with the ground.
