Wall appliance install question

We provided our home builder with the specs of a wall oven and a wall microwave for the cabinetry configurations. These are 2 separate units. Would it be possible for me to switch to a combo unit? Does anyone know if the cabintery will allow for this change in install?

Probably a question for the cabinet manufacturer. If the cabinet is already made the dimensions of all the different units could help.

You have the far better choice. Why would you want to change that?

You’ll need field alterations for the cabinet that may or may not be possible. You may beed a new cabinet. Depends on the specs of the cabinet line and the appliances both. You’ll need different electrical, with a bigger wire and more amperage than the single wall oven requires . And the 110 circuit run for the MW will have to be removed. You can’t cover it up.

The changes are anywhere from 1-4K, depending on complexities that are invisible to the internet.

Okay, thank you. We are past the ‘you can make changes’ stage with the builder’s cabinet maker. I wasnt sure if it was something that could still be manageable. I guess I’ll just go with the separate wall microwave and wall oven. Thank you.

Separate is better. We are renting a house with a combo unit with one control panel and the oven was having issues and causing both units to not work. It took several visit from service and nearly 3 months to get the oven fixed. It was really frustrating that it also affected the MW which was working just fine.

You made the right decison by going separate as chispa mentioned. On a combo if one goes bad, both wind up not working.

Comparing GE ovens: A combination oven requires one cutout and one platform to support the entire appliance. Two appliances requires two cutouts and two platforms, one for each appliance, with a two inch (minimum) gap between the cutouts.

Ok, I had no idea of the risks associated with this. Thank you to everyone. This entire process has been very lengthy and super fragmented. Hopefully everything comes together okay in the end. Many thanks once again. 🌺
