I will be hiring a painting company to remove my popcorn ceiling and paint throughout the whole house- they informed me that this will take 3 days. Due to dust allergies, I will be giving them the key as I will be staying elsewhere for those 3 days. (I will also change my locks after everything is finished).

My concern is that I have central air floor vents and I am concerned that the popcorn ceiling dust (asbestos free) will fall into the floor vents. I would like to cover my floor vents, however it is 30F outside so I need to leave the heat on at all times to prevent my pipes from freezing.

I don't have the option of just covering some vents because all the rooms will be done, and I also won't be in the house to monitor the place for those 3 days...

Is there anyway to bypass this where I can cover the vents and register with a filter but also leave the heat on to prevent my pipes from freezing over those 3 days?
