Front door Christmas decorations

Hi!

Looking for ideas for what to do with my front door for Christmas decorations? There is so much more space on the right side it just seems odd.

  • I have a tree I can set up out there. Really like this idea
  • I would love some creative idea for window
    Above door

Thanks!

What ever you decide for your transom will have to be 2 sided, you don’t want the backside view from in the house.

Maybe a scattering of stars or snowflakes?

Can people see the area (right of the door) from the street?

Nope cannot see that cove right area from the street

Well actually you kinda can see it LOL

A lighted tree would look great in that space with a pretty wreath on your front door. I

Personally I don't like all that stuff in the doorway. I would get a beautiful wreath for the door and planters up next to the columns. Nothing in the right alcove.

    A bright mat

    Wreath and urn

    Multiple wreaths for more impact

Multiple wreaths door is really pretty! I wonder how some wreaths would look up in the transom 🤔

Alcove to complement what was chosen for door

Kudos for being a sweet mom!

Just wanted to say I don't think you need anything for the window above the door.

I agree with others. I'd put a lighted tree in the alcove, which, from the street, appears to be an area framed by the right pillar, and side of the house extension. And, just hang a fabulous wreath on the door. Keep it strong, but simple.

Another thing to consider would be to replace the ceiling porch light with something much larger, dropped, and important. I think this could bring more focus, attention, and balance to the front of your home.

this one is cute. you could do a larger potted tree in that corner and bring in a rocking chair

    Larger tree

    Or something like this

just make a wreath like this w/added balls and drape over the doorway.

the gold and silver would look nice w/your brick. may I suggest a larger, hanging chandelier? the current you have seems a bit small.

oh, and one other thing. that large shrub on the left blocking the window? it's all you see when viewing the house. can it be pruned? ditto the right one. It's such a pretty house but the overgrown shrubs hide it.

The  black and white plaid you have in the doormat could be cute in holiday decorations, perhaps with a pop of red, too. A buffalo plaid ribbon woven into greenery swags (lighted if you have an electrical outlet) hung above and outside the windows all around would emphasize the nice big scale of the doorway.  Consider a swag instead of a wreath on the door to align with the narrow rectangular window of the door. Try one big pot with an evergreen, on the left side of the door.

The alcove is the perfect spot for a bench or wide chair. (Looks like you may need to put pavers down first.) Having it not visible from the street makes it convenient for deliveries, for setting down packages while you get out your keys, or for kids to sit and wait... When someone comes to your door they get a nice surprise and maybe a hint of your home's personality in seeing the hidden alcove.  You could match the bench to your door color or paint it your favorite bright color. Add pillows, blanket, etc. Appropriate for each season.

This isn't a Christmas display suggestion but I have another idea for your alcove.

Looks like there is dirt on the "floor" of it (mud kitchen) so you may need to add pavers or whatever is appropriate.

I would place a garden bench there and the bench would serve two purposes: 1) a place to set down shopping bags while unlocking the door and 2) a place for post office/FedEx/UPS to place packages. While the alcove isn't totally hidden from the street, the packages would be less on display than on either side of your front door.

My favorite ever photo of our entrance.

Well it's no wonder why it's your favorite. It's absolutely perfect - not overdone, not underdone. And, thanks to the elements, the touch of snow is such a nice touch.

Personally I feel that the contrast between door and wreath needs to be greater. Wreath fades into the door.
