Carrier manufactures equipment under the Carrier and Bryant names. The majority of their conventional HVAC systems are the same, albeit that the Carrier branded systems are marketed and priced at a higher price point.

Carrier's ductless mini splits are made by Midea America as part of a collaboration between the two companies. I suspect they are the same whether they're branded with the Carrier or Bryant brand name. Given supply logistics in the HVAC market, it may be that they had inventory of units with the Bryant name. Check with your contractor.

If your contract specified Carrier, that is what they should have installed. While there may be little difference between the two brands is not the point. You paid for the Carrier brand if that is what your contract says.

That’s my thinking, but I’m not sure how to handle it. The company that installed the system is reputable, and they seemed honest and respectful. But I paid a lot of money—over $19000 (although they called it ductless, they did install ducts in the attic and vents in all the rooms upstairs). When I researched costs, I based my decision on the higher cost of Carrier. The other estimates were higher; one was $30000! Even if Carrier and Bryant are the same, they should have explained that to me and indicated that they would be using Bryant. I plan to contact the company. I’m just not sure if I should ask for some sort of discount.

The Carrier Ductless and Bryant Ductless systems are exactly the same except for the labels. I recently purchased a Carrier packaged heat pump however the unit is sold under the Carrier, Bryant, Arcoaire, Tempstar, Day and Night, Comfortmaker, and Heil brands. Yup, they're all the same. The distributor had two Carrier units in stock so that's what I got -- from a Bryant dealer -- but I would have accepted any of them.
