Too much “pretty”?

Looking at this pendant light for over my new construction 8 foot island. There is electrical already placed for three pendants. Would three of these pendants be “too much”?

FYI- The pendant is almost 12”-

I think the simple shape balances the intricate design when it’s turned off, but I’d need to see the shapes of light cast by three of these…I think I’d like this more at the top of the stairs or near a corner.

I too wondered about the shadows it casts in the room. In a working kitchen it may be very irritating.

I think they are really pretty, and probably not too big. I was looking at something similar for a guest room.. The ad showed a pic with the pendant on in the dark and the shadow pattern was a selling feature. For a kids bedroom. I kind of agree with the above posters that the effect of 3 of these might be too much for a kitchen. I will add tho if that wouldnt bother you, they are pretty and if you love them get them.

Nothing lives in isolation. Who knows? Nobody. Not without knowing all the other elements, surfaces , materials in the kitchen.

You also have 96 inches minus the 36 the pendants use -leaving 60 inches to be divided up four ways ( 15 inches ) Meaning smaller may be a lot better, as these are fairly "closed" versus open. You need a minimum 6 inch open space at the ends of the island......where are the existing boxes??

Lamps Plus has good info on it, including photos in people’s homes. It also has a mock-up feature so you can see it in your room.

What I don’t like about them are the cords.

I agree that we have no context not even some idea of your kitchen style and size of the island. IMO they do not look like kitchen but more bedroom lighting and in the pic above they do nothing for that space with the yellow light coming from the bulbs.

It totally depends on the style of the kitchen.

They are subtle. They are just neat texture when off, and if the Lamps Plus photo is accurate, they are delicate yet earthy when on.

A quiet pretty, so you won't have too MUCH pretty. Whether or not they match your kitchen is something else altogether. :)

I have a pendant with a pierced shade over my table, and it does cast very interesting patterns on the walls and ceiling in that corner. I quite like the effect, but might be less enthusiastic if it were in a work space. The kitchen picture Jinx found doesn't show any shadows/patterns, but it's certainly a possibility with this style of shade. This one does look like it has more holes and less solid compared to mine, which may mitigate the problem.

The picture above and this one are homeowner submitted (in reviews). This one shows some pattern reflections:

It’s just impossible to know without getting one in the room. It is a pretty shade.

Again, it’s the cords I wouldn’t like. I had a pendant over a kitchen sink once with this sort of cord, didn’t keep it a week.

hard to tell if its too much without seeing the size of the island. also what other materials do you have that are being used in this kitchen? is it too many patterns? does it match the cabinets and the counter textures? there is a lot more info needed to be able to answer this question accurately for you.
