On the cabinet run with our range the tile goes up to the ceiling. We dont have crown there (or elsewhere in the house) and I don’t think it would look better with it.

I have tile to the ceiling in bathrooms and it looks just fine without crown. Why would kitchen tile be any different?

I think contractors want to give ideas based on their experience, which is not that of a designer. In this case your opinion is all that matters.

I agree... forget the crown moulding. Tile right to the ceiling is a nice clean look.

I agree with others — but, I’m wondering if he’s suggesting molding (or even a more simple trim) because he is concerned about the tile install job. Either not confident in the installer or there is some unevenness with your ceiling/wall that he thinks will be more pronounced by your selection. Trim is super helpful to cover these sorts of issues. I think you should ask about this and understand why he thinks it won’t be clean looking without the trim so you can make the best decision before all that tile goes up. Best of luck!

Crown would camouflage an uneven ceiling. If yours is level, you can go without.

There is no such thing as too much crown molding.

Undulating or uneven ceilings are a disaster for crown molding as it can't be bent as can shoe or casing. Float the ceiling to flat or buy a case of caulk.

Thanks everyone, we are going without the molding around the kitchen. The tile is white and so is the grout and ceiling, so any unevenness in the ceiling *should* be camouflaged.
